Most people think that cholesterol worries just have an effect on older individuals, but this is not the case. High degrees of cholesterol can also be discovered in the young. In one study, 75 % of those checked had a yellow waxy substance in their blood – LDL cholesterol – it is thought to be a reliable indication of future heart issues. The surprising thing about this study was that they were all healthy American soldiers with an average age of only 21.

Now we do require some LDL cholesterol because it is used by the body to control some vital functions and we definitely need HDL cholesterol because it assists regulate LDL cholesterol. The only problem is the quantity of these substances. High levels of LDL have been linked to atherosclerosis, which leads to heart disease.

If you would like to begin working on your cholesterol levels in a maintenance type of way, you can do so with the aid of exercise and diet. The exercise element does not have to be arduous. Walking for an hour a day will do the trick if it is in conjunction with healthy dieting.

The diet should include plenty of fibre and roughage because not only will it reduce LDL cholesterol, but it will also help your bowels to work properly which lowers your chance of getting bowel cancer, the incidence of which is rising these days.

Foodstuffs that are rich in fibre and roughage are fruit and vegetables, particularly greens; beans, pulses and grains, particularly oats as in porridge; nuts and soya. It is fairly simple to increase your intake of these foods without radically changing you main diet, although it is sensible to substitute skinless chicken and fish for beef and pork.

For example, you could eat porridge for breakfast and add a handful of barley to your soup. You could add a few leaves of lettuce to your sandwich and eat fruit as snacks throughout the day. You could have beans on toast every now and again. Whole grain bread, obviously.

Some foods have a particularly healthy reputation for lowering cholesterol levels. Avocado is one because it contains a great deal of mono-unsaturated fats which raise the degree of HDL and HDL counteracts LDL. Raw carrots are another one. Raw carrots contain lots of pectin, which reduces LDL. Pectin is also there in substantial quantities in citrus fruits, apples and berries such as strawberries, raspberries and red and black berries.

Then there are other well-known healthy foodstuffs like garlic and shitake mushrooms which are also thought to ward off cancer and boost the immune system as a whole. Ginger is another healthy food that is easily incorporated into dishes.

Nuts, particularly walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans and almonds are high in Omega 3 fatty acids which has a beneficial impact on LDL cholesterol. Sesame seeds contain phytosterols, which also reduces LDL. Other foods containing phytosterols are: celery, lettuce, asparagus, spinach and tomatoes.

You ought to strive to eat mono- and poly-unsaturated fats as they will improve your HDL. You can find these fats in cannola, safflower, soya bean and olive oil. They also hold Omega 3. Other sources of Omega 3 are fish, particularly the fatty fish like tuna, salmon and mackerel.

April 27th, 2011Treating Acne At Home

Acne is a very distressing condition. Individuals are so aware of their looks and acne does not help in the ‘good looks department’. What is even worse is that most sufferers of acne are fairly young – teenagers, in fact – and are not best equipped emotionally to be different from their peers and are especially not equipped to become spottier than others.

Not that acne is the same as having a couple of spots every now and again, which can happen to you all through your life. Acne is a precise condition, but it does occur usually in teenagers during puberty. Usually, acne disappears when adulthood appears or shortly thereafter.

Many teenagers and their families spend a huge sum of money on acne cures, but is there another manner of lessening the effects of acne? It certainly is very dubious that it can be ‘cured’ like chicken pox. It is rather an ‘illness’ like a cold or the flu, it has to run its course.

If you have a difficulty with acne, it is because your body is making more oil than your skin can let escape quickly, so it forms a little ‘volcano’ and erupts, when the pressure is high enough. Let us take a look at why this happens.

Firstly, you have to wash on a regular basis. Now I am certain that you do that already, but do not be tempted to wash too often. Over washing does not help, because the skin needs some oil on it to remain supple. If you keep sanitizing that ‘natural moisturizer’ off, your body will only make more to replace it.

Therefore, wash as anyone one else would, but not more frequently and do not use perfumed soap. You might be allergic and you do not need more possibilities to cloud the subject.

Your hair and your hands also carry a certain amount of oil for the same reason, so keep them off your face. Your hair and your hands are oily and dust and pollution stick to them. If they touch your face, you are risking clogging up more pores with oily debris and thus worsening your acne issue.

Tie your hair back if it is long and use a handkerchief if you need to touch your face. Other things that come in everyday contact with your face that could become oily and dirty are pillow cases and towels. Therefore, shower before going to bed and use clean pillowcases each night.

As far as towels go, just use your own. Change it each day and if you require a towel outside your home, either carry your own or far better, use paper towels and do not rub, but dab your face dry.

There are specialist creams you can use to replace soap, but some of them are very harsh, which could trigger an excessive production of oil again. Just keep in mind that you have to let acne run its course, but you do not have to exacerbate it either.

April 25th, 2011Combatting High Cholesterol

Cholesterol can be highly dangerous. Not in lesser quantities and not even all cholesterol, because there are two types. One is good for you, because it helps mop up the other one which is damaging for you in substantial quantities. HDL cholesterol is termed the good cholesterol and LDL the bad cholesterol, although we require some LDL in order to regulate some of our bodily functions

Too much LDL in our blood streams can result in congestion which in turn would lead to higher blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. So what can you do about it? There are three prongs you can use to combat cholesterol: diet, exercise and medication. Some people do not want to be on medication every day for life, but some do not mind.

So, the first thing to do is get into the routine of exercising each day. The minimum exercise you need to be doing is walking for thirty minutes each morning and each evening. You may think that you do not have an hour a day to spare, but you probably do.

If you have a lunch break, what do you do in it? Eat? Read the paper? Have a chat? OK, why not select a greengrocer’s that is fifteen minutes walk away and go and purchase an apple every day? In the evening, you could go for a walk with your spouse or your dog. In that fashion, you have only thirty minutes to find in order to remain healthy.

How can food reduce your cholesterol? Well, there is cholesterol in practically everything we eat, so it is a question of remembering which type of cholesterol is in which food and being selective. In general, this means avoiding food that is high in saturated fats and trans or hydrogenated fats and eating more food that has mono- or poly-unsaturated fats.

This is not as difficult as it sounds anything you buy in a tin or a tub will or ought to have the kinds of fat written in the contents list. You will merely have to learn which fresh food is healthy for you. Basically, red meat and dairy products are not particularly healthy for you. Try swapping skinless chicken and fish for beef and pork. Drink skimmed milk, if you have to drink milk and give up butter.

In fact, some margarines have been specially made to lower cholesterol and, yes, they do do it, it is not a scam. It is often said that liver and eggs are high in cholesterol, but according to the British Heart Foundation, our bodies cannot access this cholesterol, so it is all right to incorporate them in a low cholesterol diet.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are the real friends in the battle against high cholesterol. Bananas are particularly good and so are citrus fruits. Nuts are also healthy for you and in particular almonds and walnuts. Tofu and other soya bean foodstuffs are beneficial and will even lower cholesterol.

Roughage and fibre are very good for lowering cholesterol and one of the best meals you can have is a bowl of porridge in the morning for breakfast.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on several topics, but is now concerned with lowering cholesterol without medication. If you want to know more, please visit our web site at What Foods Lower Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is something that lots of individuals fear, but most people do not understand. Individuals are scared of having ‘cholesterol’, but they do not understand that there are two sorts of cholesterol and that they have to have some of each sorts.

The problem comes if you have more cholesterol than you require. This is because cholesterol is a waxy, fatty substance that can stick to the walls of arteries, build up and result in obstruction.

This means that the heart has to work more to send enough oxygen and nutrients to where they are required. This in turn means that a rise in blood pressure, which often leads to heart disease, which in turn leads to heart attacks and strokes.

Luckily, there are three methods out of this difficulty: diet, exercise and medication. The medication would have to be taken daily and for life, so most people would rather strive to reduce their levels of cholesterol without taking drugs. However, this does mean lifestyle changes.

A great deal of individuals have tried dieting to lose weight and failed. Dieting to reduce cholesterol is not exactly the same, but there are similarities and a weight loss diet could be linked with a low cholesterol diet quite easily.

However, there is another method and that is exercise. You can either exercise a lot and eat more or less what you like or exercise a bit and be wary with what you eat as well. If you choose to exercise a great deal, the manner that it will work for you is by raising your rate of metabolism and strengthening your heart.

Before embarking on an exercise routine, you should talk to your physician, particularly if you have not carried out much exercise for a long time. Your physician will almost certainly advise you to do mild types of exercise such as rambling for an hour a day (two times thirty minutes) until you are within a stone or so of your target weight. Swimming in a swimming pool is another good alternative.

Exercise can have a pretty rapid impact on your cholesterol levels. In fact, it will have a faster impact than dieting, but the best manner to go is to eat less HDL (saturated fats, trans fats and hydrogenated fats) and exercise as well.

Whilst you are exercising a lot more, keep in mind to hydrate your body by drinking plenty of water. Water, not soda or caffeinated drinks or beer. Just water and at least two litres a day, which is approximately eight tumblers full.

You can also drink water by eating watery fruits like watermelons and other fruits, which would kill two birds with one stone as eating fruit is regarded as a way of warding off cancer.

April 9th, 2011Natural Sight Improvement

Losing one’s vision can get upsetting. In the beginning, if as standard, you begin to lose your vision at around 40 years of age, it is the first sign of approaching old age, but later as it deteriorates further, individuals begin to worry whether they will go blind.

Well, if you require spectacles at 40 then yes, it is the first sign of approaching old age, but there are not so many individuals who go totally blind now due to advancements in information concerning the eyes and how to treat impairments.

There is nothing you can do about the former difficulty, but at least two avenues you can take to sorting out the latter.

Most individuals ‘blindly’ follow their opticians advice and purchase spectacles or contact lenses. This is the best choice for the optician and the cheapest option for the client in the short term. It is good for the optician because you will almost certainly need new specs every two years and contact wearers have to keep buying contact lenses as well.

It is good for the customer because the cost is small if you do not go for designer frames like Gucci or Levi. In the long term, though the customer pays out many, many times more than if a different course of action had been chosen.

One of these other courses of action is Lasik surgery. This is expensive up front, but can last for 20 years although you might still need spectacles for either long or short distances. Most individuals have their long distance sight corrected and never ever have a problem with it again, although they do still need reading glasses.

A third option, which you might like to attempt instead of or in conjunction with any of the above is called Natural Vision Improvement. It has to be said that the system of Natural Vision Improvement has more detractors than supporters, but some individuals treat it as a form of yoga for the eyes which cannot do any harm.

The point here though is that if you would like to attempt Natural Vision Improvement, you should still go to an optician regularly so that they can check for eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration, which Natural Vision Improvement cannot hope to, nor does it claim to, cure.

Proponents of Natural Vision Improvement say that contemporary apparatus like TV screens and monitors and even living in a city where long distance eyesight is almost unnecessary because it is blocked by buildings a few yards away, have trained us to ‘see badly’.

They say that we need to relearn how to see in the right manner. They even go as far as to say that glasses and contact lenses may be part of the problem.

Here they mean that as your eyes become used to corrective lenses, they come to rely on them and so become weaker. Therefore, the next time your eyesight is measured, you will need more powerful glasses.

The Natural Vision Improvement philosophy says to use the weakest lenses that you can and make your eyes work harder. In this manner, they insist, the next time you go for a check up, you can get weaker lenses not more powerful ones until eventually you do not need glasses at all.

Some opticians and optometrists will work with you if you want to attempt this path, but you may have to look about for one. One vital point around the Natural Vision Improvement procedure is that if your impaired vision could create a danger to yourself and others, you should wear regular, full-strength glasses whilst carrying out those activities (like driving).

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on a variety of topics, but is now concerned with macular degeneration test. If you want to know more, please go to our site at Macular Degenerative Disease

From the moment they launched back in 2007, Fit Flops toning shoes have been a huge success with women everywhere. These sandals aren’t just a range of bright, colorful and fashionable summer footwear – they can help you to get a lower body workout, simply by walking about as you usually do anyway.

They use a specially designed sole which uses materials of differing densities in different areas and which has a special shape. This results in some minor imbalances being introduced during walking. This causes the leg and butt muscles to try to correct for this and restore the body’s natural balance.

The result of this is that the lower body muscles do a little extra work. That’s how FitFlops are able to deliver a lower body workout when you wear them. Scientific tests have found that the amount of work performed by the calves is increased by as much as 11%, the hamstring muscle activity is increased by up to 16% and the buttock muscle activity by up to 30% (when compared to normal walking activity performed whilst wearing standard exercise or leisure shoes).

There’s no doubt that a “workout while you walk” is an extremely attractive prospect for many people. That’s hardly surprising. Fitting a trip to the gym in between working, looking after your family and all the other daily chores that consume your time is far from easy. It’s also worth remembering that monthly gym membership fees can be expensive.

Needless to say, sandals are hardly the best choice of footwear beyond the summer months – so Fitflops expanded their range to meet customer demand. Fitflops fans must have been delighted when clogs, winter boots, cosy slippers and, most recently, sneakers were incorporated into the range. Now you can get a lower body workout without your toes turning blue.

Another of the good things about the FitFlops range is that, in contrast to other toning shoes – such as Reebok Easy Tones or Skechers Shape Ups for example – they don’t look like exercise footwear. They look very chic and could be worn in a variety of different social situations. Nobody will suspect that you are getting a free lower body workout with every step you take. They’ll probably just be jealous that you’ve managed to find yourself such a trendy new pair of sandals, boots or shoes.

When the wet weather arrives, stay cool and trendy in a colorful pair of Hunter boots – the wellies that are worn by royalty! The latest range of FitFlops winter boots will give you a free lower body workout, keep you warm – all whilst still being super fashionable.

When the clocks go back, you can be certain that winter is well and truly on its way. It gets dark earlier every night and the weather gets a little cooler every day. There will be ice and snow on the ground before you know it. On a positive note, it’s time to treat yourself to a new pair of trendy winter boots.

Obviously there’s a wide selection of different styles for you to choose from. Leather boots and fur boots are always popular choices. Even if it’s pouring down you can still look good in a pair of colourful Hunter boots – wellingtons with style. At the end of the day, they’re worn by royalty, so they’re bound to have a certain kudos.

But why not ask for a little extra from your winter boots this season? How would it be if your new winter boots didn’t just look good but also helped you to look good?

Toning shoes have been around for a while now. Their special design lets you get a free lower body workout just by walking around as normal. There are numerous different brands and designs available on the market, including winter boots. Most of them work by using a special design of sole which encourages the muscles in the lower body to do a little extra work.

Skechers Shape Ups and Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) Shoes both use specially shaped soles which are designed to replicate the feeling of walking barefoot across soft sand. Fitflops sandals and Reebok Easy Tones, on the other hand, have soles which are designed to produce very small imbalance whilst walking. The idea is that the muscles in the lower body will attempt to correct the imbalance and thereby do some extra work.

You can see how the prospect of getting a lower body workout whilst walking around normally would be very attractive for many people. After a busy day at work – possibly with a commute at either end – running around after kids, or just doing general daily chores, it can be extremely difficult to find either the energy or the time to visit the gym. For busy modern women, toning shoes must seem like the ideal solution .

A number of independent tests seem to back up the claims of increased muscle activity as a result of wearing toning shoes. Neither is there any lack of extremely positive anecdotal user feedback available. However, there are those who question the claimed results. Some query the authenticity of the trials, based upon the fact that many of these have received funding from the big footwear manufacturers. Sample sizes are also frequently queried. Obviously, there are different sides to the argument. Nevertheless, if toning shoes do nothing more than encourage wearers to walk more often, then that’s a good thing in itself.

When the wet weather arrives, stay cool and trendy in a colorful pair of Hunter boots – the wellies that are worn by royalty! The latest range of FitFlops winter boots will give you a free lower body workout, keep you warm – all whilst still being super chic.

Many people would not think of something as mundane as walking as a viable way to work out. After all, it’s a low impact, low intensity, low injury risk way to workout. There’s no need for training or special equipment. You know how to do it already – as a matter of fact, you most likely do it every single day.

Nevertheless, it would be a mistake to let familiarity breed contempt in this case. There’s no need to start out on an exercise regime more suited to a professional athlete in order to achieve some major health benefits. The benefits provided by this simple exercise are numerous – including weight loss, a key goal for a lot of people.

Walking can lower the risk of stroke and heart disease. It can reduce blood pressure levels and lower cholesterol. Due to the fact that it is a weight bearing exercise, it can help to build muscle and increase bone density. It can help to increase the operating efficiency of the heart and lungs. The probability of contracting certain types of cancer can be reduced as a result of walking regularly. It can also help to fight anxiety and combat depression. Recent studies in the UK suggest that walking as little as eight miles a week can help to combat Alzheimer’s disease. As mentioned previously, it can help you with weight loss, get you into generally better shape and give you more energy.

That’s a long and impressive list of benefits. It reads like a press release for some new miracle drug or health supplement rather than a mundane daily activity! There’s no need to “go for the burn” or adopt a “no pain, no gain” mentality. You just need to do a little more walking than you normally do, and keep doing it on a regular and consistent basis, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you reap the rewards.

There are plenty of opportunities for you to walk more often. You can fit it into your schedule at a time to suit you. Leaving your car in the garage and walking to the shops, work or school is a good start. However, if that doesn’t work out for you then just take your car anyway but park it in a faraway corner of the parking lot so that you have further to walk to reach the entrance – no need to feel guilty. If you use the bus or the subway, get off a couple of stops before you reach your destination and walk the last section of your journey. Walk up the stairs instead of using the lift. During your lunch break, go for a short ten or fifteen minute walk. Walk about whenever you are talking on your mobile phone. Opportunities to walk a little further each day abound.

It can be difficult to monitor your progress if you are fitting walking into your daily routine in a series of short bursts as described above. A pedometer may prove to be a good investment. It will record your results in terms of the number of steps taken, the total distance covered or the number of calories burned. This can be a good way to keep your motivation high.

An mp3 player is another good accessory for you to consider. You will find that the time and the miles just fly by when you’re listening to your favourite music.

Toning shoes are another, fairly recent development, which might help you. Brands such as Skechers Shape Ups Shoes, Fit Flops sandals and Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) Shoes all use special soles which increase the level of work performed by your lower body muscle whilst walking. This can help you tone and trim your lower body – just by walking.

So, if you would like to shed a little weight, then walking to lose weight is a very good choice. It will also provide you with numerous other health benefits – many of which are even more important than losing weight.

When the wet weather arrives, stay cool and trendy in a colorful pair of Hunter boots – the wellies that are worn by royalty! The latest range of FitFlops winter boots will give you a free lower body workout, keep you warm – all whilst still being super chic.

October 30th, 2010The Key To Rapid Weight Loss

There are many people who would like to lose weight – if you’re one of them then you will know that it’s easier said than done. It’s no wonder that the weight loss industry is such a big money earner, anything that can help people achieve their goal just a little more easily would be gratefully received – and highly valued – by a great number of people.

There’s no shortage of special diets for you to follow. Some of them will undoubtedly be effective – but it’s hard to keep motivated when you are hungry. Whatever way you look at it, if you are dieting to lose weight, then you need to cut down on the number of calories you consume every day. The type of food that you eat is pretty much academic – the results of your diet will depend upon a reduced calorific intake.

However, if you do want to shed a few pounds, ideally as rapidly as possible, then trying to do this simply by dieting may not be the most efficient method. Introducing some light physical exercise can really help you to lose extra weight, and to do this much faster than by relying on a diet to shed the pounds.

A lot of people will be put off at the the very thought of exercise, but the thing to note is that it need not require visiting the gym three, four, or maybe even five times weekly. In fact, it doesn’t need to be a high intensity workout at all – although you can do this if you like. Something as easy and simple to do as walking can produce very significant results – and there are a huge number of other health benefits in addition to weight loss.

The important thing is to do a little bit more than you would generally do – and to do this regularly and consistently. Regular physical activity will raise your metabolic rate – the speed at which your body burns calories. It’s this increase that causes you to burn extra calories all through the day – not only when you’re exercising. If you’re sitting reading a book, listening to the radio, watching TV, doing the housework – then you will use up extra calories. Even when you’re tucked up in bed, fast asleep, you will burn extra calories. That’s what helps you to lose weight fast.

Walking is a low intensity, low impact, low injury risk exercise method. It’s something which requires no special equipment and which you already know how to do. You can fit it into your day whenever it’s most convenient for you. You don’t need to find the time for a trip to the gym – just leave the car at home and walk to work, get off the bus one or two stops earlier than usual, go for a walk at lunchtime instead of sitting in front of your computer, take the stairs instead of using the elevator – there’s no shortage of opportunities.

You can use an mp3 player when you’re walking to help the time and the miles fly by. You can monitor your progress by using a pedometer which will display results in terms of distance covered, the number of steps taken or the amount of calories burned. It may help you to keep your motivational levels high.

These days, you can even get special “toning” footwear that will trim and tone your lower body while you walk. Shoes such as Skechers Shape Ups, Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) Shoes, Reebok Easy Tones and Fit Flops sandals all use a specially designed sole which makes your leg and butt muscles do a little extra work when you walk.

You’ll be surprised and delighted when you see how much faster you lose weight using this approach. You may even find that there’s no need to starve yourself or spend money on fad diets after all.

When the wet weather arrives, stay cool and trendy in a colorful pair of Hunter boots – the wellies that are worn by royalty! The latest range of FitFlops winter boots will give you a free lower body workout, keep you warm – all whilst still being super chic.

Increasing numbers of people are starting to realise the benefits of walking as a means of exercising. It’s easy to do – in fact you do it every day without even thinking about it. It’s a low impact workout that requires no special equipment, training or expertise. It’s suitable for a wide range of ages – which is probably one reason why it has such a low “drop out” rate. You can do it wherever you like and you can fit it into your daily schedule whenever it’s convenient for you.

If you’re trying to lose weight then walking is ideal. Keeping an eye on the amount of calories that you take on board is great – but dieting alone is not a very efficient way to shed the pounds. The combination of dieting with regular exercise will give you much better results. First of all, you will burn calories whilst you exercise – and that’s good. But secondly, regular exercise will actually raise your metabolic rate – the rate at which you burn calories. Even when you’re not exercising the rate at which you burn calories will be higher and this will help to deliver good weight loss results for you.

The benefits to be had from walking are numerous. It can increase your lung capacity, lower the risk of heart disease and stroke and also help to lower your blood pressure level. It can lower bad cholesterol levels whilst raising good cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of developing two types of diabetes and even reduce the risk of developing certain forms of cancer. It will help you to sleep better at night and is effective in combating anxiety and depression. It will give you more energy and you will feel less fatigued throughout the day.

That list of benefits reads like the advertising spiel for the latest miracle cure. It should be all the motivation you need to get started with a walking exercise programme. If you’re eager to get going, the good news is that, as previously mentioned, you don’t need any special equipment. As long as you have a good, comfortable pair of shoes that don’t give you blisters, you’re all set.

If you want to monitor your progress, a pedometer is a useful device. It will monitor your progress and display your results in terms of distance covered, number of steps take or calories burned – whatever is most interesting for you and keeps your motivation up. An mp3 player might be another good investment if you don’t already have one. The mile will pass more quickly if you’re listening to your favourite tunes as you stride along. However, neither of these are strictly necessary to get started. Just make sure your shoes fit well and don’t give you blisters and you’ll be all set.

If you haven’t exercise for a while, or if you have any medical conditions, it’s a good idea to seek the advice of your doctor before you start walking (or any other new exercise program for that matter). It’s also worth remembering that, even although walking is a relatively low intensity exercise, it’s a good idea to stretch your muscles before setting off on your walk. Take your time and start off slowly – you can build up both in terms of speed and distance over time. Some gentle stretches when you have completed your walk are also a good idea. This will help you to avoid any strains and ensure that you achieve all the aforementioned health benefits in the most effective manner.

Have a look at the huge range of styles available from Fitflops – sandals, boots, clogs and slippers.

It can even lower the risk of contracting certain forms of cancer and recent studies suggest that it can lower the probability of Alzheimer’s. For a lot of people, one of the key attractions of walking will be the fact that it leads to weight loss and a reduction in body fat.

It’s a long list of benefits. It could be an advert for some new wonder drug or miracle diet supplement – but it isn’t. To achieve these benefits no more than small modifications to your daily routine are required. Walking for as little as half an hour a day will produce positive results. If you can gradually work up to 10,000 steps each day – which is, for most people, about 5 miles – and is much more readily achievable than you might imagine, you will really start to see results. You will both look and feel better.

One piece of advice that is frequently offered is to walk to work or the shops instead of taking the car. Maybe the distance involved is too great to make that a practical proposition for many people – but there are still many possibilities for you to include extra walking in your daily activities on a consistent and regular basis. If you travel by bus get off a couple of stops early and finish your journey on foot. Forget the elevator and use the stairs every second time. At lunch time, go for a fifteen minute walk around the block. These are just a few examples of how to gain significant health benefits just by making some very minor changes to your daily routine. There are plenty more.

Remember to check with your doctor before commencing any new fitness routine – especially if you haven’t exercised for a while or if you have any existing medical conditions. The important thing in order to gain health benefits is to exercise on a regular basis. You don’t need to over exert yourself or get out of breath. Incorporate regular walking activity into your daily schedule and, before you know it, you will have more energy, look better, feel better and be able to enjoy life more.

Have a look at the huge selection of styles on offer from Fitflops – sandals, boots, clogs and slippers.

When you consider the benefits of walking as a form of exercise, they’re almost too good to be true. Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke, lower blood pressure, increased lung capacity, reduced risk of depression and even a reduced probability of certain types of cancer. Add in weight loss, increased energy, and generally feeling better and the list of benefits is truly amazing.

You also need to bear in mind the fact that walking can be fitted into your daily schedule at a convenient time for you. Neither are there any costly monthly membership fees for the gym. In fact, you would be forgiven for wondering why more people don’t integrate walking into their exercise routine. Another point to remember is the fact that you don’t need any special equipment, any expertise or any training. A good, comfortable pair of shoes are pretty much all that you require to get started.

Possibly people may not be including walking in their exercise program because they simply aren’t aware of the many potential benefits to be gained by doing this. We still have something of a “no pain no gain” mentality and this might make it seem implausible that a low impact workout such as walking could have such a positive impact.

However, the evidence is irrefutable. There are some truly excellent benefits available by incorporating walking into your exercise program. The key thing is consistency – exercise needs to be taken on a regular basis. It should, ideally, form a part of your daily routine.

Opportunities to do this are plentiful. Walk to the office and leave the car at home. Forget the elevator and use the stairs every second time. Take a short 10 or 15 minute walk around the block during your lunch hour instead of slouching in front of the computer. When carried out as a matter of routine, small changes can have a large positive effect.

Of course, the fact that the effort required is so small may be part of the problem. Many people may find it hard to believe that they will achieve such a high value of benefits based upon such a small investment of time and effort. One possible way to overcome this, should you find yourself in this category, would be to use a pedometer. Use this every day to record the number of steps you take, the distance you cover and the number of calories you burn.

It should quickly become evident that relatively minor changes to your daily routine – going on foot instead of driving for some journeys for example – can have a major impact on your health and fitness. Measuring and verifying the benefits of your walking activities could be all the encouragement that you need to motivate you to exercise on a regular basis and reap the rewards in terms of health, fitness and overall well being.

Some people try make your life miserable, if you let them. Everyone could see that I looked better and felt happier, but some people just have to try to spoil it. I was told: many people have died of kidney or liver failure after being on Atkins I read it in the paper; you will have a heart attack, it’s not natural; your cholesterol will shoot up and you will need your legs amputated or you will have a stroke; it will affect your eyesight. All sorts of drivel. So, I went to my doctor, who admitted that he knew nothing about the Atkins diet, but also added that he had heard nothing bad about it either. He sent me for a series of tests, but the results all proved satisfactory. He was very happy that I’d lost 18 lbs and so was I. Six weeks later, I went for another cholesterol check, because of the high fat levels in the diet and, although my cholesterol level was up very slightly, the doctor said there was absolutely no cause for concern.

The Atkins diet book warns that you might develop bad breath (halitosis). I don’t know whether I did or not – no-one said anything, but I started brushing my teeth four-five times a day just in case. I guess that’s another benefit of following the Atkins diet: increased oral hygiene. It also warns of constipation. I didn’t get that either, although I didn’t give up black coffee, which has always had a laxative effect on me. But surely you can’t suffer from constipation if you’re allowed to eat well over 1lb of greens a day? I hadn’t been eating that well before the diet! So my two main concerns were nebulous.

After a couple of weeks I was getting bored not going out so much. Not with the diet, but because I’m single and am used to going to the pub (and drinking beer). So, I decided to treat this scientifically. One day, after work, I had three pints of Guinness and felt merry. Before the diet, I would have drunk five or six pints to feel the same. To my delight, the next morning the ketone stick told me that I was still ‘on the diet’. Over the following weeks, I really enjoyed finding out what would ‘work’ and what would not. I discovered that cider had to be avoided at all costs; some beers and some lagers were all right; red and white wine were OK. Consuming alcohol does not knock you off the diet, but it slows down your rate of progress. However, even slow progress is progress, I say. Better than giving up the diet or giving up going out.

Don’t let people encourage you to ‘just have a little bit’. They don’t understand or don’t want to understand the trouble they’re causing you. One’s body can hold two days worth of carbohydrates: one square of chocolate, one slice of bread, a bowl of cornflakes or one sugar in your coffee will cost you TWO days to clear out of your system. Don’t let people do it to you. This is not a diet that you can stop and start when you like, in fact I think that it probably could be dangerous to keep allowing your ketone and other levels to fluctuate wildly. There are also the high fat levels in the content of the Atkins diet, which is not dangerous if you keep to it, because you body devours fat and cholesterol in the absence of carbohydrates.

The story ends at this point, with me having got down to under 16 stone and keeping it there, until very recently when I moved to the Far East to live. Once I get used to the food and have my own house and own kitchen, I will get down to 15 stone, I’m sure I will ” with very little effort.

Well, there you have it … My grateful thanks to you, Mr. Blackwell, wherever you are these days, you changed my life and my understanding of food and drink with that book and thank you, Mr. Atkins too.

How often you meet with your trainer is probably going to change over time based on things like schedule, your needs at a particular time and finances. As a personal trainer for 10 years, I have clients that I meet with as little as once a month and clients that I see as often as 4 times a week. Sometimes people have an idea of how often they want to meet with me and other times they are looking to me for guidance in making this decision. I will make suggestions and usually we end up figuring it out together. While you’re trying to figure out what’s right for you, it’s important to consider things like your level of experience and your patterns of success and failure.

If you are new to exercise I suggest meeting with a trainer 2 or 3 times a week. I realize this adds up quickly but the beginning stages of a new exercise regiment are a critical time. For example people with great intentions of getting in shape often injure themselves quickly because they don’t really know what they’re doing. The supervision by a trainer in the beginning will get you off to a great start by learning the basics about good form. This will help to prevent injuries down the road. Also, most people fall off course during the first 3 weeks of a new attempt at exercise. By having several training appointments early on you will gain the momentum you need in order to hang on through this tough period.

Working with a trainer frequently in the beginning will help to create the momentum you need to get you over the ‘stage 1′ hurdle. Also, if you’re a beginner you have a lot to learn. A trainer will show you how to do things correctly so you don’t end up with an injury. As you feel more comfortable with the exercises and as your trainer becomes confident that you are doing everything correctly, you can expect that you will become more confident and be able to work out on your own.

If you are at a pretty good level of fitness but you do the same exercises all the time, having an appointment once a month to spice up your routine is a great idea. Here’s why: Have you heard people talk about the need to ‘confuse your body’? What it basically means is that you don’t want you body to become too comfortable. This happens when you do the same thing all the time. Ideally, you should be challenging your body and ‘confusing’ it by doing different exercises with different levels of exertion. This is the best way to optimize your exercise. So, if you find yourself bored in your routine or not challenged but motivated enough to do it on your own, you would greatly benefit from a once a month appointment. The new material will keep you challenged and engaged.

Of course when you’re trying to figure out how often to see a trainer budget is going to come up. The two of you can talk about what you have to spend and they will help you to get the most out of your money. It’s the trainer’s job to assess the situation and make suggestions about what they think will be helpful. The two of you can then decide together how you will move forward.

Remember you don’t have to sign on for a package of sessions right away. Take your time in deciding if you have picked the right person and if you want to keep working with them. It may seem like a lot of money but if you re lucky enough to find a trainer you enjoy and you’re getting results, I am confident that it will be worth every dime!

A lot of people do not understand their bodies. That much is obvious because they think that fasting will help them become fitter. They feel convinced that their bodies will feed off their surplus fat and that they will lose weight as a result. They also appear to imagine that they will automatically end up with more muscle, just in the right places too. Some take up fasting for fitness because they think that it will rid them of the toxins in their bodies.

Another conviction that these fasters have is that they are will be able to flush out all of the toxins in their bodies by drinking plenty of water while not eating food. Even if this is true, it would be a lengthy process that would mean that you would have to fast for at least five to seven days though in order to complete the detox process, although it is still not clear scientifically whether fasting is the right tactic for those that desire fitness.

There are many other paths to fitness that do work well though. For example, you can cut back the amount of food that you eat. Cutting back is not fasting, it is dieting and it is not only far more effective, it is also far less painful. This, together with drinking lots of water and increasing your amount of physical activity will help you to become fitter.

If you drink a lot of soda like cola or lemonade, which are full of sugar, like a lot of kids do, or lots of cups of sugared tea or coffee, like a lot of adults do, then just replacing those drinks for water or weak tea will help you lose weight fairly rapidly even if you do not make any other changes to your diet or your amount of activity.

It is also possible to damage your body if you take on on a strenuous exercise regime only relying on body fat to keep you going. Your body probably will not be able to deliver enough energy to fuel such a change, because your metabolism will be too low.

Someone going about it in this way, can become very weak and dizzy. It is not a good idea to run the risk of injury because you have not given your body all the energy it requires to complete the tasks you are requiring it to perform.

It is better to consult a doctor before you make any alterations to either your diet or your fitness routine. Confer with your doctor about your thoughts on fasting and fitness. They will be able to inform you whether they feel it is something you can try or whether it is just too risky.

Fasting is all right if you have do it for religious purposes, but do not attempt much physical exertion. Ask a Muslim how he or she feels during Ramadan! Fasting for long periods can lead to high blood pressure and even liver damage. So, be very wary before attempting to starve yourself fit, there are much better ways.

April 18th, 2010Rapid Weight Loss

Other than physical appearance, weight affects a person in various ways. This could be the overall quality of life, self-confidence, depression, health risks, and physical incapabilities. There are a lot of advantages to losing weight. It is for this reason that a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will trim down those excess pounds and get a beautiful, jaw-dropping body.

The first thing that an overweight individual ought to do is find a doctor to recommend the best weight loss regimen. This will only be done after a complete physical examination, which will to the recommendation of a proprietary weight loss plan. To lose excess weight fast and permanently, four aspects of one’s life has to be altered: what to eat, how to eat, behaviour and amount of activity.

Here are a few fast recommendations that can change an over-weight person’s whole life:

1: Quick weight loss consists of a multi-faceted technique that is made up of mindset, exercise, and, in some cases, dietary supplements. Commence by learning a food regimen that can be effortlessly incorporated into your current lifestyle. Start an exercise plan that requires a minimum of fifteen minutes a day lively walking, running, swimming and/or dancing.

2: Set yourself realistic goals. The ability to focus and have a proper mental outlook enables a person on a diet to quickly lose those extra kilos. You have to develop discipline and a proper outlook, a dieter will never get disheartened and pack the diet in

3: Listen to your body. Each and everyone’s metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs. Try substituting one program for another to assess the body’s reaction. An exercise program must be suited to one’s body, because some can not exercise as rigorously as others can. If walking is all that can be done, then walk, since this is proven to be the best exercise. Muscles burn calories so it’s also a good idea to put on a little more muscle and it looks good too.

4: Eat more fibre because it makes a person feel full sooner and stays in the stomach longer, slowing down the pace at which you will be hungry again. For instance, a couple of slices of whole grain bread will stay in the body longer and stave off hunger longer than white bread, which converts to glucose faster. giving you a quick sugar spike, which soon passes, making you hungry again.

5: Keep away from fried food especially deep-fried, since it contains a large amount of fat. However, although fish and chicken are considered to be far leaner than beef, these white meats can retain even more fat than beef if it is fried. It is recommended that those on a strict diet opt for grilled food, since it does not have much fat after the food has been cooked.

6: Take lots of fluid. Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body ‘flushed’ and since weight loss depends on how the body eliminates body wastes, the body must stay hydrated.

So, all in all, discipline and consistency is the key to fast weight loss. Light dieting, exercise and the correct nutritional supplements taken regularly everyday will result in a quicker weight loss than having a massive, but short-lived campaign followed by a return to your bad old habits, because this only results in gaining more weight than before the diet was started.

April 17th, 2010Belly Fat Diets

The process of eliminating the unattractive and potentially dangerous fat deposit around the waist cannot be undertaken seriously without a satisfactory belly fat diet, because the procedure has to begin with a good diet, if it is going to work. You must have the right mental approach too, but it is not enough on its own.

You need to analyze your eating habits carefully, identify the good and bad foods that assist or hinder the weight loss process and eliminate the bad ones. There are many choices of belly fat diets to be had online and most of them stress the importance of adhering to a low-calorie plan.

Everyone knows these days that wholemeal, unprocessed or brown grains, seeds, certain vegetables, fruits, lean meat and fish should be the main ingredients of any diet and it is the same for a belly fat diet too. Another useful approach to use against that stubborn layer of fat around the waist is the use of good fats or oils in your cooking and the best examples here are olive oil, soy and flax oil as well as monounsaturated fats from avocado pears and seeds. Nutrients like these control the appetite, meaning that they reduce the pangs of hunger by producing a feeling of satiety.

One advantage of a belly fat diet is that it creates great benefits for the entire digestive system, meaning that constipation and bloating will be stopped, thereby permitting your body to purge itself of toxins. Toxins can also be flushed away more easily if you drink plenty of water, fruit juice and green tea for instance.

Furthermore, a good night’s rest of approximately eight hour’s sleep, together with moderate physical exercise will promote the effectiveness of any belly fat diet that you may decide on.

Some of the belly fat diets provide suggestions for different breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, so that the dieter does not have to count calories – a sort of pick-n-mix tactic. But it is far better to obtain lists of foodstuffs with portion sizes and their calorie count, so that you have enough flexibility to take pleasure in a wider variety of food.

It is not important for this piece of writing, which method you want to take: high fibre, low carbohydrate, high protein, vegetarian, or fruit only, it is always a good idea for you be conscious of what you are putting on your table, because this will enable you to make a better identification of what works and what does not work for the loss of belly fat in your own particular case.

The main objective of any belly fat diet is to burn more calories than you consume. If you do not accomplish this, no positive results will appear even after all the dietary changes you have implemented.

Whether you choose to go for calorie control or you prefer to continue with a slightly adjusted form of your normal diet combined with more physical exercise, it is up to you, but you have to make certain that you avoid any dangers and excesses of any kind and try to take a central-course approach to weight loss, so that you are able to enjoy your accomplishments in a fit condition.

April 16th, 2010Do Fad Diets Work?

A fad diet is a fashionable diet plan that promises to help you lose weight more often than not in a relatively short time. A fad diet frequently attracts a lot of media coverage, which then attracts a large number of overweight people to try it in order to get back in shape. Fad diets are often soon discredited, but they keep raising their head from time to time.

The grapefruit diet was or is an example of a fad diet. People wanted to believe that you could lose weight solely by eating. The food in this case was grapefruits, but there is also a cabbage diet. The trouble with these fad diets is that their slimming effect is only short-term, because you cannot eat just cabbage or grapefruit for the rest of your life, so the weight comes back as soon as you go back to normal.

‘If you always do what you always done, you will always get what you always got’ is a true saying. But what is worse is that a lot of of these diets can be injurious to your health.

However, do not think that fad diets are a new trend. Fad diets or fad treatments have an ancient history going back to fake witch doctors, medicine men and quack doctors who doubled as barbers! Fad practitioners have a long and scandalous history but they are still alive and doing very well, thank you very much, today.

These days, medicine is too tightly regulated for them, so they have turned their attention to susceptible, despondent dieters. Most of those that take up a fad diet are overweight teens longing to look like their favourite film star.

Fad diets usually concentrate on reducing or completely cutting out carbohydrates. It is the low intake of carbohydrates that brings about the rapid loss of weight. In fact, this rapid loss is due to the quick loss of water that these low-carb diets stimulate. Much of the fat might still be there, so that when you stop the diet, your body regains its normal amount of water and the lost weight is put back on just as fast as it was discarded.

In the normal course of events, carbohydrates are the source of energy for work and exercise, but with these fad diets, the carbs are no longer there, so the body begins to break down its store of fat. This may appear advantageous but it is not necessarily so. The ketones resulting from the breakdown of fat are excreted via urine and often increased volumes of urine, which can result in dehydration. People with certain medical conditions have to be very careful too; diabetics, for example.

Fad diets are popular, but they can be very damaging to your body and when they do not work in the long-term, it can be very depressing leading to comfort eating. This is why many people start a fad diet, lose weight and are radiant for a month or two, but then slip back when they are getting near to their ideal weight. They go back to their old ways and the weight begins to return. They become depressed, certain that they will never be able to lose weight; they comfort eat some more, maybe giving up any hope of regaining a normal weight permanently.

April 15th, 2010How To Burn Belly Fat

Trying to burn off your belly fat is probably the most widespread reason for dieting. Next is trying to lose flab from one’s arms and legs, if you want to lose weight and get a slimmer body. Diet alone does not work well enough to get a flat stomach, and many people are searching non stop for new techniques to try to complement their diet.

Occasionally the battle you have to fight takes years, while in more fortunate situations, you’ll be able to burn belly off fat in a few months. The time period necessary for such an achievement varies according to a string of personal factors: first of all it depends on how large the fat deposit is around your waist.

Then, your age, your health and certain other personal things influence the rate of weight loss significantly. You can burn belly fat at a more rapid rate if you stick to a training routine made up of a series of well-determined exercises that include not only body crunches but also full body work.

Twists for instance, have a great reputation for the toning of the abdominal muscles and the creation of a slimmer waistline. While you can maintain your calorie intake under control by carefully monitoring your diet, you can only burn your current deposits of fat through physical activity.

Nutritional supplements can help you burn your belly fat off without having to suffer the consequences of a crash diet. Some of the most valued remedies for accelerating the metabolism include green tea extract, Garcinia Cambodia, pineapple extract, seaweed and other herbs with a stimulating impact on the digestive tract.

Be very cautious with appetite suppressants because they do not burn belly fat like the rest of the supplements do, but rather they engender a sensation of satiation which tells your body that there is no requirement for it to long for food. However, if such a situation gets out of control, the user of these weight loss supplements could develop anemia because of poor nourishment.

Do not try to burn your belly fat within a rigid, predetermined time frame. Setting seven or ten-day goals could put a lot of strain on the body, and besides a flatter stomach you may end up with grave health problems. Every body has its own way of adapting to diets. For instance, one’s level of activity alters with programs meant to speed up the metabolism.

If things are not done slowly but surely, the body could respond aggressively to the new stimuli, creating all sorts of discomforts such as diarrhea, exhaustion, anxiety, poor concentration and the so forth. Therefore, choose those ways to burn belly fat off that best suit your condition, age and physical structure.

April 15th, 2010The Atkins Grapefruit Diet.

The Atkins Grapefruit diet is a diet plan, not supported by the eponymous Dr. Atkins company, that tries to play on the popularity of two diets: the grapefruit diet and the Atkins diet. However, a close look at this diet reveals that it may not be all it claims to be.

First of all, it’s pretty hard to any find information on the Atkins grapefruit diet plan at all. Clever people know that when someone is perpetrating a con, they will often skim over the facts. This is what the Atkins grapefruit diet appears to be doing while trying to get people to associate it with two seemingly effective diets.

Is the Atkins Grapefruit Diet part of the Atkins Diet or support by the late Dr. Atkins’ company? The answer is a resounding no, not only is there no mention of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet on the Atkins web site, but there is no fruit of any kind mentioned in the list of allowed foods in the Atkins diet Induction phase either.

The induction phase allows the following foods: fish of all kinds; all fowl such as turkey and chicken; any shellfish; any meat such as beef or pork; eggs cooked in any style including fried; cheese; vegetables; herbs and spices; fats and oils; low carbohydrate beverages including diet soft drinks.

Please, notice one thing – that fruit is not on that list at all! Later phases of the Atkins diet do include limited amounts of fruits such as cantaloupe and even strawberries, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases even allow small quantities of grapefruit, but when looked at in comparison with the amount of Grapefruit recommended on the Atkins Grapefruit Diet there is a huge discrepancy.

The Atkins Grapefruit Diet recommends a cup of grapefruit juice or a cup of grapefruit sections, with 8 and 18 carbs respectively. Even the most liberal phases of the Atkins diet recommends limiting consumption to below 8 carbs per day, when it comes to grapefruit. That’s a direct contradiction of one plan to the other.

Most sensible people would turn to the Atkins website itself the moment they heard of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet and when they found no reference of that diet on their site, a red light would flash and an alarmbell would sound.

In general, remember that any diet that relies very heavily on one type of food, such as grapefruit in a grapefruit diet, is unhealthy for any but extremely short periods. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and could interfere with the results of the Atkins diet, especially in its early phases.

The most famous or notorious country in the world for overweight and obese people is the United States of America. Regrettably, it has become one of the things that tourists first talk about, when they get back from a holiday in the USA.

For instance, my father was a Second World War teenager and had always wanted to go to America. It was the first thing he did when he retired. Three months travelling wherever he could think of by bus and when he came back he was full of tales about whom he had encountered and what he had seen. but he could not hide his amazement about how many really fat people there were there.

I believe the organizations who say that this is largely to do with Americans’ love of hamburgers, pizzas and doughnuts; foodstuffs that have only recently become popular in Europe. Great Britain was the first country to follow the American way, as you would imagine, because it was easier for the advertisers, both countries speaking English.

Sure enough, Britons are becoming obese at an disturbing rate too. Those adverts and trends are also visible in mainland Europe, but at least there are enough warnings now. Anybody who falls for into the junk food trap these days, only has himself to blame. We have been warned.

I now travel a lot in Asia and it is a crying shame to see rehashes of old adverts promoting junk food. For example, Thai food is one of the best in the world, yet Knorr is trying to convince family cooks that they do not have time to make sauces or soups; that they should tip the salty contents of one of their boxes into boiling water and that nobody would know.

I can assure you that they would know where I live. However, firms like Knorr know, that if they can sabotage one generation then they have won. Likewise with McDonald’s, get one generation of parents to take their kids there every week and it becomes a family tradition. Bang! They are in!

I saw it happen in the UK and it is so hard to see it happening in Asia too.

If you decide that you want to follow a traditional style diet, as a rule of thumb, you ought to find a weight loss plan that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables; low-fat dairy products; white meat and fish; whole grain cereals and plenty of drinking water and by that I mean at least eight to ten 250mm glasses a day.

Being overweight can cause a lot of other issues, in addition it being a problem in its own right. Obesity makes quick movement, stretching and reaching tricky. Surplus perspiration can be an embarrassment and it can result in rubbing. The range of fashionable clothing obtainable can be restricted too. In addition to these issues, studies have shown that being overweight nearly always leads to health issues such as high blood pressure, heart issues, sleep apnea and diabetes.

The only solution to this bundle of problems is to lose those spare pounds around your waist by embarking on a healthy weight loss diet plan and following it faithfully. I will give you a few general pointers below to help you slim down and decrease the risk of spending your latter years running in and out of hospital.

Almost all of the traditional weight loss diet plans proposed by dietitians and nutritionists start with the simple exhortation to reduce your food consumption to the amount you require to carry out your every day routine. The problem is that it sounds simple, but it is one of the hardest things to do. It takes a lot of determination on your part. However, you could start by eating and drinking three-quarters of what you normally eat. Once you can handle that, reduce the percentage again.

Try to make every calorie count. By that, I mean, if you are going to eat 200 calories, make sure that they are contained in food that will do you good and keep you feeling satiated. A bar of chocolate will give you a blood-sugar rush for 20-30 minutes, but a doorstep of a cheese and salad sandwich made from whole grain bread washed down with a glass or two of water will give you plenty of fibre and vitamins and fill you up for a couple of hours.

It is always a good idea to keep a diary of what you eat and when. This way you can compare days and weeks and see what works best. It also helps if you are reducing your consumption in stages. Mark what you eat with the number of calories in that portion. If you do not know accurately, estimate it. Writing something down is better than nothing.

The next part is the part I don’t like – exercise. Regular exercise. The good news is that it does not have to be too much. Two thirty minute walks a day is pretty useful. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Or walk in your lunch time and after your evening meal. If you like, regular visits to the fitness center are even better, but they are also easier to skip or give up altogether.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most common New Year’s resolution in the West is to lose weight. However, it is also the first New Year’s resolution most likely to be broken! Losing weight is not difficult in theory, but practice is oh, so different. This is because it involves lifestyle changes.

Our bodies change as we get older and typically our level of activity diminishes too. Perhaps, we get an office job with a promotion, whereas we used to work ‘in the field’. But people in general, do not regulate their diet to match their variation in circumstances. We sit behind our desks or in retirement and think we can still eat and drink like we did twenty years ago. Big mistake!

Luckily, there are dozens of diets available to help us attain our weight loss goals. There are the traditional calorie counting diets, as advocated by Weight Watchers; there are the ‘new era’ diets like Atkins, which have us counting carbohydrates and there are no end of fad diets which are frankly not worth wasting time talking about.

The choice of which diet you would like to follow is all yours, of course, but it is well worth examining the main types of diet to see which one will suit you. Then you must determine whether you will require the help and encouragement of a weekly visit to a club or not, or whether you can get that camaraderie from an online club of slimmers, where you talk to fellow slimmers in the club forum online.

It is also worth fixing in your mind, why you want to diet. Is it to look better? Or to feel more comfortable in yourself? Or is it for health reasons? Or all three? Have a think about your reasons and let them motivate you. Whenever, you feel like packing it all in, remember your motivation. Get a book and journal your progress, but first write your motivation in bold capitals on the front page or cover. Keep it in front of you and read it out loud to yourself every day.

Consult some of the slimming sites online and work out a few key metrics like the average weight people are for your height, sex and body type and your BMI or body mass index. Write these figures on the first page of your book too and use them as the ultimate goals.

You could produce a graph and plot your weekly weight to see how you are doing. Set realistic goals and targets. You can get loads of free information from the Weight Watchers and Atkins websites or / and visit your doctor for advice and leaflets.

Aim to shed something like 10-20 pounds in the first month and eight to ten per month after that. Go slowly and aim to go slowly, because then you will hit your targets and you won’t feel like giving up. When you get within five to ten pounds of your target weight, assuming that you have lost a lot of weight, throttle back a little and allow yourself a little more leeway. Drop your target to one pound a week, so that you will get a feel for ‘eating normally’.

The dreaded exercise; you have to face it, you will have to do more exercise, but two times thirty minute walks a day is ordinarily enough. You could swim once a week too or get an exercise machine, if you are tied to the house by family.

To circumvent bleeding and leakage, the very first phase in this procedure is securing hemostasis and stapling (or heat sealing) the seams bilaterally through the location where the incision will be made. When the first step is performed, resection will follow. Stitches are affixed down the area of incision to bolster the staples earlier placed, the resected part will be taken out and the wound will be closed.

Gastric specialists emphasize that absolutely no obesity surgery is an ultimate cure. It’s simply an instrument to assist patients decrease their food consumption. March 17th, 2010Menopause And Weight Gain

Studies of women aged fifty and over show that most women in this age group are positive that their weight increase is connected with the menopause in their judgment. If you take into account the fact that some people might be using this as an excuse and that others may not have made allowances in their diet for decreased levels of activity due to lifestyle changes, it is still hard to explain why women in this age group tend to put excess weight on different areas of the body, especially the stomach, whereas any weight gained in younger women tends to be on the hips.

In fact, the reality is that hormonal changes do have a role to play in this phenomenon, although the process is not completely understood. At menopause a woman stops ovulating, her monthly menstruation periods end, and her body produces much lower levels of the female hormone estrogen, which is responsible for the ovulation process.

Low estrogen has been shown to cause weight gain in animals and it is almost certainly the reason why women’s bodies change shape. While women of childbearing age store fat in the lower body, after the menopause they amass it on the abdomen instead, like men. This leads to a greater risk of heart disease.

At the same time, both men and women tend to find muscle turning to fat as they grow older and the metabolism slows down. This means that if you do not adjust your eating behavior, you will probably find that your weight increases. A person of 60 just does not require as many calories as a person of 40.

Hormonal therapy with estrogen is occasionally prescribed to control menopausal symptoms. Many women will be surprised to hear that studies have shown that hormonal therapy does not result in weight gain. Some women experience bloating and water retention in the early stages of hormonal therapy but this is more often than not short-term.

Hormonal therapy can reduce the risk of heart disease by preventing the changes in storage of body fat around the abdomen and lowering cholesterol. On the other hand, hormonal therapy has been associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in some studies.

If you find that you are gaining weight around the menopause, there are several things you can do.

Firstly, you should eat a healthy, low fat diet with plenty of fibre and avoid sugar.

Secondly, you have to take regular exercise. As people get older their physical activity levels naturally go down. Work frequently becomes less physically demanding, there are no kids to run around after, we take less active holidays and do things more slowly. Thirty minutes of reasonable physical activity every day will help to balance out the effect of this.

Thirdly. you must maintain your muscle strength and mass. Use weights for arm muscles and walking or cycling for your legs.

Fourthly, try not to get worried about the alterations to the shape of your body. If you are not too overweight, but simply have a thicker waist and slimmer legs, then don’t worry.

As customary, you should consult your doctor before commencing any exercise program, if you have any medical conditions or if your fitness levels are low. Your doctor can also help with symptoms of the menopause and weight gain.

No one has to read a study or a report to know that there are a lot of overweight or obese people in the USA and the UK. You can blame this on the food being sold or a lack of understanding, but the real bottom line is that you are the one who is putting that stuff into your mouth.

Most people do not think about it, but everyone has a choice whether to eat decent food or not. If you are radically overweight, then you chose to allow yourself to get yourself into that state. No one else, you!

Nevertheless, there is always a way out and it is never too late. There are thousands of weight loss programs, so you should be able to find one that suits you. I made that sound easy and it should be, but people still have trouble picking one.

My advice is to read the weight loss advert aloud to yourself or a friend. Does it sound laughable? Then it probably is. Dump it. The bottom line is that you can only lose weight by expending more energy than you consume. Having said that there are a couple of ways of achieving that.

The two basic methods are either counting calories or counting carbohydrates, that is Weight Watchers or Atkins. Start by going to their web sites and reading about their philosophies. Pick the one that suits you and stick to it.

One note that I would like to stress here for teens is that at your time of life your body is going through a revolutionary change. You are metamorphosing from a child to an adult and your body is filling up with hormones, you only had a little of before.

Let the change finish, before you start worrying too much. You were a bug, now you are a chrysalis and soon you will be a butterfly. Just wait and your body time to sort itself out.

There really is not much you can do to stop what your body has to do. Spots mean that you have poisons in you and your body wants to get rid of them. Help it by not putting any more junk into it. Keep your skin clean and make sure that everything that touches your skin is clean too. Hands, hair, pillow cases, et cetera.

Exercise! Now is the time to embed an exercise routine into your way of life. Exercise raises your rate of metabolism which helps you burn calories more quickly. If you can burn calories quickly, then you can allow yourself more treats.

The other point about exercise is that if you do not establish a discipline for exercise when you are young, then you will find it harder when you have your next bodily change in your forties or fifties.

The bottom line is not to worry too much about what you look like now, you are a chrysalis. Help your body out by eating healthily and take up a sport you enjoy and stick with it.

It is a good idea to set yourself targets, if you want to achieve a goal. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this. For instance, if you are a size 14 and you spend a fair bit of money on some beautiful size 8 dresses as motivation, you will probably feel quite cheesed off if you are not wearing them a month later.

It is not a good idea to make yourself feel awful, so the right way to have done this would have been to set smaller, more easily attainable, less expensive goals. A consequence of upsetting yourself like that could be depression or / and desperation and desperation to meet your targets can lead to stupid decisions.

Foolish decisions like following a fad diet, because it promises you rapid weight loss. There is no such thing as sustainable rapid weight loss without a change of lifestyle. Yes, you can go for surgery and have lumps cut off yourself or you can pump yourself full of diuretics and squeeze the water out of yourself, but the weight will come back, unless you change the way you live.

Any diet that promises rapid weight loss without recommending a healthier, more active lifestyle is doubtful. Many of these types of diet are fad diets. The organizers of these diets are only interested in selling you magic potion drinks or powders as meal substitutes. I have even seen one company selling magnetic earrings which were ‘guaranteed’ to make you lose weight, if you dieted and did more exercise!

Of course you will lose weight if you diet and exercise, but carrying the earrings around with you is not helping. It just adds to the depression when you read in the newspaper that the guru you have been following is outed as a con artist.

Here are a few tell-tale signs to help you spot a phony diet:

Any diet that requires you to miss meals should start red lights flashing. If you stop eating, you are reducing the number of calories you are eating, so you can expect to lose weight. That is not rocket science. You do not need to pay for advice like that.

However, this approach does not necessarily work either. If you skip a meal, your blood/sugar levels will drop and that has different consequences for different people, but none of them are advantageous. It will also increase the likelihood that you will overeat at the next meal. It would be better to eat a salad, an apple or a banana instead.

Any weight loss program that says you can lose weight without exercising or without dieting is definitely dodgy too, because exercise is necessary for good blood circulation and metabolism, which are vital to your losing weight and living healthily.

However, exercise alone will not guarantee good health, you have to diet too. In this context ‘dieting’ just means eating healthily.

You do not have to wear anything special to lose weight either. Electric vibrating belts, magnetic earrings, sweat-inducing cummerbunds and the like, do not work. Full stop. They do not work and in a similar vein, powder and liquid substitutes are not worth it either. Get a liquidizer and make your own or just eat properly.

February 24th, 2010Acne Scars

Acne scars are an awful memento of the having suffered pimples or even acne previously. They are unbearable because of their apparent permanence and their non-complimentary appearance. Normally speaking, acne scars are quite hard to treat, but tissue regeneration is not unusual these days with all the amazing technological developments.

In general terms, by acne scarring, we are talking about the healed lesions resulting from an acne infection. While most scarring is temporary and will probably disappear naturally over time, scars from the more severe forms of acne can be permanent.

Acne scars may be prevented if the patient sees doctor when the acne scarring is in an early stage, especially if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin’s surface. If the bouts of acne have scarred your skin, you will have to approach the problem from a different perspective, which usually means surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one way of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the natural regrowth of the tissue underneath. The procedure requires only local anaesthesia and can take between a few minutes and an hour depending on the extent of the damage.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent forms of eliminating acne scarring. It means surgical intervention at deep skin layers. The therapy is superior to both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and has a very reduced healing period. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy is within the reach of only those few fortunate people, who can afford it, since it is the most expensive acne treatment currently available.

It can happen that other sessions are required to improve the condition of the superficial layers of skin, before they can start the deep level treatment of the acne scarring. The doctor may inject collagen into the scarring in order to elevate the existing skin level or she/he may recommend micro-dermabrasion for the same reason. Trying to carry out chemical peels at home is a bad idea given the risk of aggravating the condition by irritating the scars even further.

As for the kinds of acne scarring, they can be classified by the way they look. Scarring can result because of an increase of tissue or due to a loss of tissue They both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. Specialists’ evaluation of the nature of the scars is a very important factor for the decision of adopting one type of treatment or another.

When it comes to living a long and healthy life, there are two necessary ingredients: diet and fitness. While some believe that they are inseparable, nothing could be further from the truth. It is quite possible to have a perfectly healthy diet with deplorable fitness habits. It is equally possible to be physically fit with less than perfect eating habits.

There’s a smart little line in the Jimmy Buffet lyrics “Fruitcakes” when his ‘lady’ is lamenting: “I treat my body like a temple, You treat yours like a tent”

I can’t help thinking about this line whenever I think about all the people around the world who are on these garbage in, garbage out diet regimens hoping to achieve the weight loss triumph of those who are promoting the products.

To be totally honest, it is possible to shed pounds by dieting alone. It is difficult but possible. It is also possible to be physically fit and still have a few extra pounds. To a large degree, we are what we eat. If we follow a high fat low fibre diet our bodies are going to lack the fuel required to burn the fat. At the same time if we are not providing our bodies with the tools it requires to create muscle it does not matter how many weights we lift.

When it comes to diet and fitness, the best results are achieved when they are combined together rather. Use your fitness routine to burn surplus calories and use your diet in order to provide your body with the nutrients and fuel it requires to build muscle.

A pound of muscle takes up less space on the body than a pound of fat. Pound for pound, I would much prefer mine be built of muscle than fat. Dieting on its own does not build muscle and that is something you would do well to remember.

You should also understand that as you are building muscle you may be shedding inches while not showing a great deal of progress on the scale. It is very important that you bear this in mind throughout the weight loss process. Do not measure your progress by the scales alone or you will observe deceptive results.

The difficulty is that far too many people do just this, get frustrated and give up when they are actually making progress. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of the scales. Look in the mirror, try on your tight slacks, and measure your waistline. Measure your success by how you feel after climbing a flight of stairs not by the scales.

By building fitness into your diet routine you are also enabling your body to burn off any extra calories you may have consumed during the day. This means that if you want to have a small ‘cheat’ during your day, you can make up for it by burning a few more calories than normal in the evening. This is not something that should happen often but an occasional occurrence is not going to make or break your diet.

You should also consider dieting and exercise as a hand and glove type of relationship. They fit together. Diet and exercise when combined can create incredible weight loss results for those who take them both sincerely.

The thing to remember is that neither works well alone and neither will work unless you are willing to do the work. You must make this a priority in your life in order to achieve the best possible results.

February 14th, 2010Strategies For Curing Acne

Most people with acne try to treat their broken skin with creams, face washes, soaps, lotions and treatments. However, the easiest way to treat acne is by altering your diet and getting rid of acne-producing items such as fried food. A healthy diet, rich in organic unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, grains and beans is the first recommendation for treating acne.

Foodstuffs containing trans-fatty acids, milk, milk products, margarine, shortening and synthetically hydrogenated vegetable oils, as well as fatty foods, should consumed. It seems the prevalence of acne in the United States is caused by the typical American diet. Americans tend to eat fried food in large quantities, usually cooked in the most damaging of fats and oils.

However, not all fats are bad, but the fats that typical Americans eat make them more prone to develop acne and other skin problems. Products that can cause are ice cream, cheese, bacon, chocolate and milk. Furthermore, acne can’t actually be cured using creams and soaps because the root cause of the condition is underneath the skin.

Pimples, spots and blemishes are caused by bacteria and other irritants embedded underneath the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles, which are generally caused as a result of insufficient hygiene, squeezing and poor diet.

This poor diet may be a result of too high a proportion of items such as processed, fatty, fried and sugary foods in your diet. A diet that is good for your skin emphasizes raw or lightly cooked vegetables, especially green, leafy vegetables that contain valuable trace minerals and fibre. Fresh green vegetables are essential, however you should also eat more lean protein sources, such as fish and chicken and complex carbohydrates, like rice, whole-grain bread and potatoes in your diet.

Such fibre-rich foods can help ensure a healthy gastrointestinal tract, which is so vital to the management of acne. You ought to eat three healthy meals every day in order to provide you with sufficient vital nutrients and lower your craving for sugary or/and fatty, fried food.

You should eat much more food that is rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, as well as lean beef, nuts, lentils and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which can also be useful in reducing acne breakouts. It’s also imperative to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins out that encourage acne.

We all know that having a great looking body can be one of the most satisfying things to accomplish in life. You not only gain confidence by having other people look at you wishing they had your body, but you feel better about yourself. In this article, we will be going over three great tips to help you put together an extreme weight loss diet. Once you are done reading you will be on your way to losing the pounds quickly and easily.

1-Make sure you are eating at least five smaller meals per day

One of the most important things when it comes to losing weight quickly is to make sure you don’t go more than four hours without eating a meal. The reason for this is because when you go a long time without consuming food, your metabolism will slow down. If you eat every two to three hours, you will keep your metabolism going fast.

2-Don’t skip the most important meal of the day

Obviously, you have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you don’t eat breakfast your metabolism will be slow throughout the day. But this does not mean you can eat anything during breakfast. It is best to consume whey protein and simple carbs first thing in the morning, try to keep the fat to a minimum. Oatmeal with a protein drink is perfect.

3-Try to stay away from sugars

When it comes to losing weight, the two most dangerous words in the English dictionary consist of cakes and candy. If you are a person who loves sugar and has a sweet tooth, that doesn’t mean you can’t eat any sugar at all. Sugar is perfectly fine after a workout, consider it a reward for working out. It is always a good idea have fruits right after a workout because they are loaded with the good kind of carbs.

February 10th, 2010Rapid Weight Loss Myths

There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be slimmer just to have a sexier body. Many people have moulded their bodies to make them look more healthy and more desirable. However, there is no way to attain this new look in a day of two. The problem is that most people do not want to wait, they want it now.

This can lead to these people making rather rash and, it has top be said, rather silly decisions. They are not willing to wait and they are not willing to work for what they want. This is why so many people turn to rapid weight loss diets. Some ‘guru’ brings out a new fad diet and a good proportion of the ‘I want it now’ crowd jump on the band wagon. Only to be disappointed again within the year or less.

Speed diets or rapid weight loss diets tend to put out great advertising copy that is very hard to resist. However, all diets, no matter which one you choose, Weight Watchers, Atkins or fad diet, depend on overweight people making lifestyle changes in order for them to work permanently.

There is a very apposite saying: if you always do what you always did, then you will always get what you always got. That says it all. You can lose weight with all but the stupidest of diets, but if you go back to your old ways when you hit your target weight, you MUST slowly, but gradually creep back to your old weight.

If you give your body more calories than it needs, it will store them for when it does need them. The problem is that that day never comes for too many people, because they never exercise themselves. This is especially true of fad diets like the ‘cabbage water’ diet. Yes, you will lose weight on it, but you would lose weight by fasting whatever you did. For a while, and then you might get sick. For a diet to work, it has to be adaptable and enjoyable enough for you to be able to stick with it for the rest of your life. Make no mistake, dieting is long-haul.

Many rapid weight loss programs actually only squeeze the water out of you. Just like a wet sponge. But a good dieter maintains his or her grip on that sponge, not letting it soak up water again. The problem with short term dieting, is that you let go of the sponge underwater.

This is why serial dieters first lose weight and are delighted; then finish dieting, go back to their old weight and become depressed. In that state of depression they are suckers for the advertisers of the next latest craze diet. In other words, they are being manipulated and literally squeezed dry, but of their cash too.

These silly rapid weight loss programs also include fat loss pills. They are not making you lose fat, well, maybe a tiny amount gets washed out with all the excess water you are carrying. They are only diuretics under another name. How many pills would I sell if I called them diuretics? How many more would I sell if I called them miracle fat loss pills?

Type the word diuretic into a engine and find out more about them. They are all around you in mild healthy forms. A diuretic will essentially cause your body to lose more fluid than was in the diuretic. Tea is a diuretic, for example.

This list of these dopey dieting aids to rapid weight loss goes on and on, but someone must be buying them and you can bet your bottom dollar that it is the sad, depressed dieter who let go of the sponge.

Slimming soap! Slimming soap is being advertised as being a rare Eastern remedy for corpulence. Well, let me tell you, I live in the East and I have never come across it here. Asians are slim because they do a lot of physical labour and do not come under the pressure to eat junk food that Westerners do, although that situation is changing quickly too.

Magnetic weight loss earrings, I ask you! Even being inebriated without a present for your wife ten minutes before Christmas Day is not a good enough justification to fall for this one, surely? The advertisers say that the secret of this set of earrings is that they are magnetic.

Well, if you believe this, why not get a pair of $1 children’s toy magnets or even a pair of fridge magnets and put one in each hip pocket? Two? Well, after all, you would not want to lose weight from only one side, would you? You would be lop sided.

Just remember, when you are looking for a rapid weight loss diet: there ain’t one ( that will work for life). If you are putting on weight, then your lifestyle is wrong and it is up to you alone to change it.

If you would like to lose weight, you must have a plan, a route map to success. This is called a program or programme. There are thousands of programs, but many of them are just just batty. If they sound foolish, they probably are. Have you heard of the ‘cabbage water diet’? It sounds daft and it is. You cannot only drink cabbage water all your life!

Although there is a lot of claptrap talked about losing weight, there are some truths that have a role to play in nearly any program you choose to follow. One of these truths is that it is better to eat many small meals during the day (about 5-6), than to go all day without eating and then stuffing yourself at dinner in the evening. This is commonly called ‘grazing’.

Have you ever asked yourself why this might be so? Well, the fact is, that the typical human body can only handle about 250 calories per hour. If you eat more than that, you are probably overloading your digestive system. This is why it matters, because if your body cannot use all the calories that you give it, it will store them.

Your body can only use up what it requires to fulfill the job that it is busy with, that is, what you are putting it through. If you are watching TV, a lot of of those 250 will be stored. If you are exercising, most will be burned up. It stores the remainder as body fat. Your body has learned through evolution that tough times will come, so it prepares for them. It is like us putting excess money in a savings account or people hoarding food if a bad winter is predicted.

However, these days in the West, we rarely face those lean times any longer. Therefore, that fat is never used up and we just keep adding to it until we decide, by choice, to limit our consumption of calories or increase our amount of exercise.

Knowing this information, what can we do with it? Well, if you were to want to lose weight, you ought to be consuming no more than 1,500 calories a day (or whatever your program tells you), so 1,500 divided by 250 is six. if you ate 250 calories every other hour, that would give you twelve hours.

Therefore, eating light but often would be a helpful strategy or program to follow, because firstly, you are only providing your body with what it needs, when it requires it and secondly, you are able to better maintain a consistent blood sugar level, which means that you iron out the spikes and troughs you experience in a normal day’s cycle.

Two hundred and fifty calories does not sound a lot, but it is surprising what it will stretch too, if you take the trouble to investigate. It is true that you will have to severely restrict some foodstuffs, like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, but whoever honestly thought that you could lose weight by eating that stuff anyway?

If you do not have time to cook a number of times every day, look in your supermarket. There are loads of ’250 calorie’ microwave meals. You don’t want to eat that? I can’t blame you. so get a good cookbook, which shows calorie content. You are at work all day? OK, eat some fruit, but choose wisely. It can be done, it only requires a little will and planning.

January 21st, 2010Dieting For Children

It is difficult to see so many children literally overburdening their bodies at such young ages by being overweight. These kids cannot run, jump or play with other children because their bodies just will not permit them to do so. Dieting is a necessity for these kids in spite of our best efforts to protect them from the self-esteem problems that often go together with obesity.

If you have a child that is well outside the average weight range for his or her age, you are the one who must take the required steps to ensure that they shed those excess pounds in order to live a life that is as close to average as possible. The first thing you have to do however is consult your child’s physician about the best possible course of action to safeguard the health of your child.

Put quite bluntly however, if you do not make the effort to assist your child to lose those pounds you are putting the health of your child at risk. We do not let our children play in the street, we do not let them run about with knives, why on Earth would we allow them to commit suicide by candy? If you have a child that is obese, the following advice should help you and them with their dieting.

First of all, do not make food a penalty or a prize. Food is part of the difficulty with your children and you should not use it against them. Instead, introduce them to healthy alternatives. Do not keep junk food in the home and do not let them buy lunch at school. Pack their lunches for school so that you know what they are getting. If you do not give them junk food to take away and they cannot have it when at home, they will be better off.

Include healthy snacks into your family’s eating plan rather than junk food. Fresh fruit, chopped vegetables, nuts, and frozen yogurt are good healthy snacks for your kids. When in doubt, consult the food pyramid but watch calories in the process. You want your children to eat a well balanced diet and eliminate junk food and sweets.

Cut out the juices and pop. This may be a huge ordeal in your family but the greatest gift you can give your child is a deep and abiding liking of water. Water works to make their stomachs feel full and keeps them hydrated for the additional activities you should be introducing into their routines.

Make them take dance lessons, take up a sport, or simply get out and run around the yard. The worst thing you can do is to allow your children to become comatose television, computer, or video game zombies. Get them out of the house and get them active. This helps in two ways. First of all, they are not stuffing their faces if they are outside playing and having a good time. Second, they are burning calories as they play which is a big bonus in the dieting process of your children.

As your child begins to lose weight, you should start to notice a very big change in not only the way he or she bears his or herself but also in his or her relations with others. Your child will notice a restored self-confidence as the pounds come off and the teasing at school stops.

If you are at a total loss as to how to help your child take the weight off there are camps that are intended specifically to deal with weight issues and building self-esteem in children aged 7-19. A camp may be just the answer you are looking for. Another thing to consider is to lead by example. If you do not eat junk food, if you are active, and if you do not engage in emotional over-eating your child will not be learning those behaviours from you or having them strengthened by you.
