Unfortunately, in the United States, increasing numbers of people are affected every day by the health issue known as diabetes. Many individuals have to handle symptoms of diabetes. If you think you or someone you care about might be experiencing diabetes symptoms, you are most likely searching for more details so you may educate yourself. Diabetes, diabetes symptoms, and also diabetes treatment possibilities will all be discussed in this article.

There are three main kinds of diabetes that you need to be familiar with: type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes. Each kind is very different, and there are diverse signs of each type. Resulting from the body’s failure to generate insulin, type 1 diabetes necessitates the person to inject insulin. It is also known as juvenile diabetes. The condition that results from insulin resistance where cells basically neglect to use insulin effectively is known as type 2 diabetes or adult onset diabetes. Gestational diabetes is exactly what happens when expecting mothers who have never had diabetes previously develop high blood glucose levels during pregnancy.

Generally, most people who have diabetes are either overweight, mainly physically inactive, have difficulty sleeping, have an unhealthy diet, have relatives who have had diabetes, or all of the above. The individuals at risk for diabetes commonly fit into one or more of those groups. If you fall into one or more of these above categories, you need to definitely consult with your doctor and get frequent medical checkups to make sure that you are doing everything you can for diabetes prevention.

For patients that have or are developing diabetes, there are many symptoms that may be present. Some of the most frequent symptoms are ongoing thirst or regular hunger, unintentional weight loss, itchy or dry rashes, having low energy in the daytime, an increase in bacterial infections, consistently visiting the bathroom, as well as blurred eyesight. These symptoms may grow in intensity, even though they perhaps started off as considerably normal issues. If you experience a number of these symptoms, it is undoubtedly worth it to have a conversation with your doctor about the chance for diabetes.

No cure exists for diabetes currently. Having said that, there are numerous kinds of diabetes treatment choices. Diabetes treatment will vary with respect to the sort of diabetes that a person has. Everyone who has diabetes is going to be expected to adhere to a regular physical exercise program, keep a healthy, well-balanced diet, and also keep track of glucose levels. Insulin is utilized to treat type 1 diabetes as well as some cases of type 2 diabetes. Commonly, ttype 2 diabetes is treated with oral antidiabetic medications including metformin, glyburide, and also glipizide. Glyburide is likewise utilized to treat gestational diabetes.

The most essential thing to keep in mind, though, is that you should speak with a experienced physician if you think maybe you are experiencing diabetes symptoms. You’ll get the official diagnosis and also suitable treatment options if required.

Just about the most typical diseases now is Diabetes. If you are experiencing Diabetes Symptoms then make positive you obtain some Diabetes Treatment.

On a lot more occasions than 1 you may have believed of beginning on some type of exercising, but lack of time, typical excuses or sheer laziness might have kept you away from in fact beginning it. However it is by no means too late to start, and thinking about the numerous positive aspects of exercising, you ought to discover somewhat time each and every day to fit in an physical exercise program.

To start with, exercising assists to help keep your physique a lot more fit which in turn wards off several wellness troubles. Also a toned and energetic physique provides you a sense of wellness and boosts your confidence. Even so, should you be exercising soon after a lengthy gap of time or have a specific wellness condition, you should consult your physician just before you proceed.

It is possible to get started your physical exercise program with these 5 systematic actions below.

* Warming up In no way begin off on heavy exercising instantly. Initially you should do some light warming up workouts to prepare the physique for additional intense exercising that’s to follow. This assists to raise the blood circulation within your physique and generates heat within your joints and muscles.

* Cardiovascular Activity When warmed up, it is possible to start off with an aerobic type of activity like operating, cycling or just walking. The treadmill may be the finest equipment for this sort of activity. You will need to start having a slower walk and gradually improve your speed, or adjust the incline if making use of a treadmill. Cardiovascular physical exercise must be ideally carried out for 20 to 30 minutes. Any simple method to know if you’re overdoing it’s to see when you can speak typically immediately after this physical exercise, should you really feel too tired then slow down.

* Strength Training This assists to lower physique fat and tone up your muscles. Unique kinds of workouts are performed to target separate muscles groups.
* Stretching This assists to enhance the range of movement of your joints, improves your flexibility, boosts circulation, and also relieves tension. Stretching right after the above workouts also balances your whole program. Stretching for 10 to 30 seconds every single is suggested, and you ought to breathe freely though performing so. Although it really is alright to do light stretching for the duration of warm ups, you have to save the bulk for later, simply because an excessive amount of stretching initially can injure your joints and muscles as a result of insufficient heat.

* Cooling Down Like warming up, cooling down is also vital. Right after exercising heavily, you have to continue the physical exercise at a decreased intensity till your heart rate and breathing normalizes. An abrupt quit is just not desirable.

Are you feeling a bit jaded? A bit run-down or even worn out? Do you feel like you ought to have a holiday, yet you do not have the time or do not have the money just now? Well, a trip to a day spa might be the answer. Most women have been to a beauty salon and so have some men, yet fewer individuals of both sexes have been to a day spa.

A day spa is an extended version of a beauty salon. The extra amenities normally involve water in some way or oil – something liquid. However, day spas resemble beauty salons in that they usually offer all of the treatments that a beauty salon offers and pampering is the prime concern.

It is the pampering as much as anything that can wash your cares away for a time and make you feel as if you have recently come back from a short vacation. Four hours at a day spa can be more relaxing (and far better for you) than a weekend away on the town.

If you have never been to a spa before, it is worth doing a local search on the computer and seeing what web sites come up. A good web site ought to list the treatments that they offer, their prices and any package offers (frequently known as day packages). It ought to also mention whether you need to book up or merely call in.

The prices might appear outrageous at first, yet it is worth checking how long the procedure takes and whether there are any luxurious preparations or oils involved, because they may be costly. Day packages can reduce the cost of a number of related treatments fairly significantly. If you still find it costly, maybe you could plan a trip for a few weeks in advance.

Something else that you should factor in while thinking about day spas and costs is the tranquility. Most spas have strict rules concerning noise. So, no small children, no shouting, no cell phones or pagers, no radios or Walkmen, just soothing background music. Everything in a day spa is meant to make you feel pampered, cared for, less stressed and much more relaxed.

So what services can you expect to find at a day spa? Well, everything that you would expect to find at a beauty salon for a start off, so that includes manicure, pedicures, hair styling, facials and make-up or make-overs.

However, a spa ought to also supply massages of various types like a full body massage, an oil massage, a Thai massage, a foot massage and maybe others too. They might also have a steam box or a sauna and / or Turkish Baths, mud wraps, herbal wraps, mud baths and even flotation chambers. Many spas provide aroma therapy and offer complimentary healthy drinks like fruit and vegetable juices too. Some may even have a swimming pool as well.

Detoxes feature quite often at most spas and some might offer colonic irrigation as well. However, the best value for money are the day packages or one-off specials, which allow you to combine a number of treatments for one discounted payment.

It is always important to eat healthily, but the two phases that it is most important are probably your formative years and your declining years. In the start, you need to build your body to put it on a decent footing for the rest of your life and in your later years, things do not work the same as they used to, so it is better to give them decent quality materials to work with.

So the pointers below are valid for every chapter of your life from being a teenager up, but they are particularly vital for older individuals.

It is important to stay hydrated. Most people do not drink enough water, but older people tend to have less water in their bodies than younger ones and this needs to be replaced. It is by and large recommended that individuals drink eight 250 cc beakers (a tumbler) of water (two litres) a day, but if you would like to be more precise the ratio is 25 cc’s per kilo, so a 250 cc glass for every 10 kilos or 22 pounds.

Protein is important to older people and as they are normally less lively than younger individuals, they do not require so much carbohydrate. Therefore, it is better to be selective with your foodstuffs, eat less bread, rice, potato and sugars, but eat a bit more lean meat, eggs, cheese and particularly fish.

If you are going to consume carbohydrates, be certain to eat the wholemeal, whole grain, unprocessed versions of rice, bread and pasta. This is to raise dietary fibre. A lot of older people suffer from constipation because they are less active and raising fibre and roughage will help counteract this. Green leaf vegetables, all vegetables and fruit are great for increasing dietary fibre.

Cut down on fat and oil. You require some fat and oil, but it is not difficult to get enough to lubricate yourself and the consumption of the correct amount of fibre, roughage and water will avert constipation.

Iron is vital for healthy blood, so find out how much you need per day (RDA – recommended daily amount) and make certain that you acquire it either from red meat, cereals or supplements. The same goes for zinc which is not easily absorbed.

Calcium is extremely important particularly for women. Osteoporosis is very common. Osteoporosis is a calcium lack which results in brittle bones. Most individuals merely think of milk whilst they think of calcium, but milk is not good for adults. You can get it from meat, cheese and broccoli amongst other sources.

The B group of vitamins is also vital for your blood and immune system. Numerous older people have a deficiency of Vitamin B12. This is a complicated condition and requires a GP’s advice, but it is common.

Next time you have a check up, look to see if they are checking your bodily level of vitamin B12 and if it is not in the list of checks, ask for it to be included.

If you are suffering from high blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension, and you failed to control it by making lifestyle alterations, then you will probably be taking blood pressure medication. This medication is important to hold the ‘Silent Killer’ at bay. Therefore, it is equally important to take the tablets on a regular basis, because otherwise your blood pressure will begin to increase fairly rapidly even within twenty-four hours of missing taking the blood pressure medication.

So, how do you make sure that you remember to take the tablets as prescribed by your physician? It can be difficult for those individuals who have a bad memory, a busy lifestyle or numerous tablets to take. Some people buy pill boxes with the numbers one to thirty-one on different compartments, so that they can see whether they have missed a day. This is a good idea which works for most people.

Others store their medication on the rack in the bathroom next to their toothbrush, so that they cannot help seeing their blood pressure medication. It is also a good concept to get into the habit of taking your tablets at the same time each day.

However, some tablets should be taken with or just after eating food to reduce the chances of upsetting your stomach. So, if you brush you teeth after breakfast, all well and good. Otherwise, you could keep your pills where you normally eat your breakfast or evening meal, so that you can take them with or after food.

Regularity or routine is the best way of remembering to take your tablets. After even a short time, you will reach for them automatically like Pavlov’s dogs when you take the action that triggers taking the tablets. I work from home and any tablets that I have to take, I keep by my computer so that I take them with coffee as soon as I begin working.

This works if you work from home, yet it is not a good concept to have one set of tablets on the go in your employer’s office and another one at home. You should never double up on this sort of tablets – it is usually better to miss a day than risk taking them twice if you are really not certain. Taking them late however is better than not taking them.

I do not have a pill box, so I simply jot the date the pill has to be taken on the back of the foil with a felt tip pen so that I can see easily where I am.

Try to associate taking your tablets with an action or make it a part of another action. For instance, if you maintain a diary, make a point of making a mark each day to indicate that you have taken your tablets and store the tablets by the diary. If the strips of tablets are small, you can keep them with your money – literally in with your money, so that you see them a number of times a day.

If you use a computer every day, you can easily (very easily, honest) set up a daily reminder in Outlook or some other electronic organizer to tell you each day by pop-up to take your blood pressure medication.

For most individuals, buying a hot tub, also called a gazebo, a hot spa or a Jacuzzi, is a first time event. This makes it quite a daunting undertaking, because they are not cheap and there are numerous variables.

For most individuals, buying a hot tub, also called a gazebo, a hot spa or a Jacuzzi, is a first time event. This makes it quite a daunting undertaking, because they are not cheap and there are numerous variables.

You have to do research on the different types of jets, the power of the pump that is best for you, the location, whether to install a deck around it or not et cetera, et cetera. In this piece, we will take a look at a few of these points to make buying a hot tub easier for you.

The first point to think about is size. This normally depends on two things: where you are going to put the hot tub and how many people are going to be using it at a time. If you are hoping to situate it above the ground floor inside your home, you will have to check the weight of the spa whilst it is full of water and people to see whether your floor will take that weight without reinforcement. If the climate is decent where you live, the garden is the best place to put it.

The next deliberation is cost. There is a vast choice of hot tubs and a wide span of prices as well. If you find that the cost of a new hot tub is simply out of your range, what about purchasing a second hand one?

There is rather a large second hand market in Jacuzzis because hotels, health spas and some home owners have to renew their models. You may be lucky enough to find rather a plush second hand model for less than the price of a new cheap one. Ask at a local installer’s for details.

The next consideration is the material that the actual tub is manufactured from. This is not inevitably the same as the housing or cabinet that surrounds the tub. Traditional-style hot tubs are made from local hardwoods such as cedar, oak, redwood or teak, but they are weighty and leak a bit.

Contemporary materials used are a mixture of plastic and fibreglass moulded into comfortable seating arrangements. They are lighter and do not leak (or should not).

Then you can think about the housing. Is the hot tub going to be on its own somewhere or is it going to be built in? if you are going to build it in, what are you going to build it into? A deck? Hardwood, softwood, concrete and tiles?

Then there is the routine maintenance of the tub. This is not difficult but it is essential, so if you are building your tub into something, remember that you will have to have access to certain parts of it. Read the instruction manual of the tub that you buy to learn which parts will require maintenance and cleaning.

Cholesterol is a colossal problem in Western countries and the problem is spreading from older people to younger people and from Westerners to Easterners. Health authorities all over the world are warning of the heart disease time bomb that is ticking away. That is all well and good, but the difficulty is is that not a lot of individuals are listening until it is too late.

One of the biggest concerns is that people do not think before buying a meal or a snack – if they are hungry, they will merely buy a hamburger or a pie. Another big difficulty, is that the generation born in the Seventies did not learn how to cook, but instead depended on junk food. They have also passed that on to their children and so it goes on.

This state of affairs has led to the rise in heart disease. So, what can be done about it? Well, the best thing would be for individuals to go back forty or fifty years and start again, but since that is not possible, it is helpful to look into that earlier lifestyle and see how we differ nowadays from it.

Forty or fifty years ago, there were junk foods, but most individuals ate them just very occasionally. They went home to a cooked meal concocted either by their mother or their wife or they cooked it themselves. It is not important who cooked it, the fact that it was cooked at home is the significant bit.

How frequently do you eat take-aways and how frequently do you eat home cooked meals – meals that were made from fresh, raw ingredients?

There were not so many labour-saving devices in those days, so people worked harder. ‘Harder” I said, people almost certainly work longer hours now, but they do not expend so many calories. In those days, individuals walked further and worked harder and consumed meals made from raw ingredients.

We do not do that now and those are the main reasons why we are all struggling with heart disease. OK, you have to be pretty far gone for it to become too late. You can implement lifestyle changes now and you will recover or you can take tablets and help to make the pharmaceuticals even richer.

If you would like to do something about your circumstance, it is fairly simple. The first thing to do is avoid red meat, full-fat dairy produce like milk, cream, butter and cheese and stop eating junk food, such as hamburgers, store-bought pizzas, hot dogs, pies, pasties, crisps and chips entirely. This will vastly reduce most people’s sources of the prime culprits of high cholesterol – namely, saturated fats and hydrogenated,or trans, fats..

The second thing to do is increase your consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables. You should also eat more peas, beans, lentils, grains and nuts. Soya is also very (very) good for you.

Avoid eating animal skin of all kinds, because a lot of the fat content is in the skin and try to replace red meat dishes with those made using fish, chicken and tofu.

If you have reason to become concerned about your blood pressure, you should start monitoring it yourself at home. High blood pressure or hypertension is known as ‘The Silent Killer’ because you cannot know whether you have it unless you measure it. You cannot guess or just feel it. First of all, you ought to talk to your doctor and he will give you some figures, then you can purchase a blood pressure monitor and keep an eye on your condition.

When you are given your blood pressure reading by either your doctor or your machine, you will be given two numbers, say 120/80.

The first number is your systolic blood pressure. The systolic pressure is while your heart ‘beats’ or contracts, pumping your blood around you body.

The second number is when your heart expands, sucking blood back into itself. This is the diastolic blood pressure. These numbers are of the blood pressure in your arteries.

There are four categories that your blood pressure numbers can fall into. The first is normal and it is generally accepted that that means readings below 120/80. These figures relate to a healthy person but can be achieved by almost anyone by keeping a healthy active lifestyle.

The second stage is known as ‘Prehypertension’ and relates to blood pressures between ‘normal’ and 140/90. This is the warning stage that you ought to be doing something to reduce your blood pressure. This could mean: a modification of diet; drinking less alcohol, tea or coffee; losing weight; taking more exercise; smoking less or giving up smoking altogether.

The third stage is called ‘Hypertension Stage One’ and is reflected by figures between prehypertension and 160/100. If you get into this stage then you really have to see your physician and he will recommend significant changes to your lifestyle along the lines stated above or / and he will put you on tablets.

The fourth stage is called ‘Hypertension Stage Two’ and is anything above 160/100. This is fairly dangerous and your GP will want to get you to make radical changes to your lifestyle and / or take tablets which could be for the remainder of your life. If you reach this stage get to your GP’s as soon as you can.

Whilst you are talking about your blood pressure with your doctor, make certain you tell him about any other medicine you are taking, because some medication will raise blood pressure too. Examples of medication that can raise your blood pressure are: anti-depressants, oral contraceptives and anti-flu or anti-cough treatments.

There are other things that can affect blood pressure as well. lack of sleep is one. Do you have a new-born baby, a sick child, money worries, sleep apnoea or a snoring spouse that prevent you from sleeping in the right manner?

Fear, anger and anxiety are also reasons for high blood pressure. So is constipation, drinking too much and smoking. So, before you let your doctor prescribe medication to reduce your blood pressure, make certain he is aware of all your conditions.

It may come as a surprise to those who have not learned the history of cricket, but it is now believed that Cricket really started in Saxon or Norman times as a children?s game played by children living in the area called the Weald of Kent in what is today Kent and Sussex in South East England . It was not taken up as an adult game until the start of the 17th century.

The first known allusion to the game in the history of cricket is to be discovered in the records of a 1598 court case concerning a dispute over a school’s ownership of a piece of land. A 59-year old coroner, John Derrick, testified that he and his school friends had played ‘creckett’ on the site fifty years beforehand.

The school was the Royal Grammar School, Guildford, and Mr Derrick’s report proves beyond acceptable doubt that the game was being played in Surrey around 1550.

The first reference to it being played as an adult sport was in 1611, when two men in Sussex were prosecuted for playing cricket on Sunday instead of going to church. This was in the same year that a dictionary defined cricket as a boys’ game and this suggests that adult involvement was a recent development.

With all the recent press coverage of the pressure of gambling upon the outcome of cricket matches, it is astonishing that historically, gambling played a very substantial part in the development of the game in England. Cricket had definitely become a major gambling sport by the end of the 17th century.

There is a newspaper report of a “great match” played in Sussex in 1697 which was 11-a-side and played for the high stakes of 50 guineas a side. 50 guineas would be the equivalent of GBP5,000 to GBP 6,000 in today?s terms.

The present day arrangement of County teams came about as a result of well-off gamblers forming their own teams in order to fortify their bets and started to employ local experts from village cricket as the first professionals. It is believed that the first ?County? game took place in 1697 between Sussex and another county.

Cricket was introduced to North America via the British colonies in the 17th century, and in the 18th century it spread to other regions of the British dominated world. It was introduced to the West Indies by colonists and to India by the British East India Company in the first half of the century.

The first colonists took it to Australia soon after 1788 followed by New Zealand and South Africa in the first years of the 19th century.

It might come as a shock to lots of people that the very first International cricket game took place between the United States and Canada in 1844 (Canada won by 23 runs) and the very first overseas tour was by a party of leading English professionals who toured North America in 1857.

The earliest English tour of Australia was in 1862, with the first Australian tour of England being by a team of Australian Aborigine players in 1868.

In 1877, an England touring team in Australia played two games against full Australian XIs that are now thought of as the very first Test matches. The next year, the Australians toured England for the first time and were a spectacular success.

No Tests were played on that tour but more soon followed. At The Oval in 1882, there was played what was to become the most famous match of all time which gave birth to The Ashes.

The Western world is under assault from a disease of our own making! Health officials in each Western country are ringing the warning bells about general public degrees of obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol. The foremost culprits of this are said to be over eating, eating junk food and not exercising enough.

At one time, not so long ago, most of the victims of these issues were middle-aged Americans. That extended to middle-aged Europeans. Then to American children and now it is spreading to European children. None of the warnings concerning eating too much junk food and not exercising enough seem to be having any impact at all.

All of these three issues are related and that is why heart disease is the primary killer of adults in the West. Cholesterol plays a big part in these conditions. However, not all cholesterol is bad. LDL cholesterol is often called the ‘bad cholesterol’ and HDL is known as the ‘good cholesterol’, because it assists to wipe up LDL.

Small amounts of cholesterol are also essential for the production of vitamin D and bile salts and it is also functional in the balancing of hormones particularly in women. However, LDL cholesterol occasionally clings to the walls of the arteries and if it is permitted to build up too much, can clog them.

If the arteries become clogged, the heart will have to pump more to get enough blood to where it is required and this can lead to the first stages of high blood pressure.

The best manner to be rid of excess LDL is to have high levels of HDL, because HDL captures LDL and takes it back to the liver where it is dealt with and excreted.. HDL cholesterol can be eaten by eating nuts, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, soya and special spreads that were designed to lower LDL.

However, the best way of reducing LDL is by not eating it in the first place. LDL is most common in saturated fats and hydrogenated trans fats. Saturated fats are mostly in red meat and full-fat dairy products like milk, cream, butter and cheese. Trans fats are usually in junk foodstuffs like potato crisps, potato chips, pies, pasties, hamburgers and hot dogs. Cut these out and that is half the battle for a lot of individuals.

Replace the red meat in your diet with soya products like tofu, of which 25% grammes a day is said to be able to reduce bad cholesterol by 15-30%. Walnuts and almonds have a similar reputation as do olive oil and rolled oats.

In fact, all grains, pulses and beans are good in the fight against LDL. In general, the foodstuffs that will help you are those that contain plenty of fibre and roughage; fresh is better than tinned (which will contain a preservative such as salt); and white meat or fish is superior to red meat like beef and pork.

If you are concerned about your blood pressure being high, which is also known as hypertension, you are almost certainly asking yourself what you can do about it. Well, no advice on medical matters could be complete without the get-out phrase of telling you to chat about it with your physician first, so now that we have got that out of the way, there are several things that you can do that your doctor will not argue with.

The first is to lose weight by means of a sensible diet, if you are overweight. Cut down on salt and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. The second is to give up smoking, the third is to not imbibe so much alcohol and the fourth, the subject of this piece, is to take more exercise. Exercise will help you reduce weight and it will also reduce your blood pressure.

Blood pressure tends to increase with age and age has a tendency to coincide with a less active vocation, as you are promoted into the office and a less active home life as the kids are older and have probably left home. If you let watching TV take over from walking as your foremost kind of entertainment, the likelihood is that you will develop hypertension.

The fact is, that you ought to be taking more exercise as you become older not less. Exercising will not just reduce your hypertension, but avoiding hypertension will also reduce your likelihood of having a stroke and having kidney disease. Exercising is a medium to long term strategy, because the premise of the tactic is to fortify the heart. Exercising will cause your heart to beat faster which will make it stronger.

A stronger heart will have less trouble pumping your blood around. Exercise can moderate your blood pressure by ten points or ten millilitres. Exercise can not only reduce your hypertension, but it can stop you from getting it.

If you have let yourself go, be wary of exercising too strenuously at the beginning. Do not put excessive strain on your heart for the first few of months. What can you do? Well, walking or swimming is a good beginning. Most doctors would agree that hiking only thirty minutes every morning and thirty minutes each evening can make a huge difference to your heart and your blood pressure.

You can walk in the open air or if that is inconvenient, you could get a stepping machine. After a few of months, you will be fit enough to take on more arduous exercises like yoga or going to a gym.

If you are worried about over doing it, you ought to join a gym where someone will keep an eye on you or even devise a routine for you. A home blood pressure monitor is a useful device to have. The best type to have is the fully automatic digital monitor with a self-inflating cuff. If you buy one that has a memory, you can easily evaluate your progress at reducing your hypertension.

It appears that everybody over the age of around forty is having problems with their blood pressure. There is such a thing as having low blood pressure but the difficulty sweeping Western society for the last twenty-five to thirty years is high blood pressure, which is also called hypertension in medical jargon.

Hypertension is a dangerous medical condition which can kill if not treated, yet it is frequently an indication of leading a bad lifestyle, so a sufferer can usually avoid hypertension by making a couple of lifestyle alterations. The time to instigate these alterations is as soon as you can, because the changes are sensible ones, but young bodies can take more abuse than older ones, so it is a good concept to keep an eye on your blood pressure from your mid thirties.

Age and ethnicity are factors in hypertension and there is naturally nothing you can do about that, yet the other factors are beneficial for everybody, because they just involve living a better lifestyle.

Being plump is a major factor in creating hypertension. The answer is obvious – if you are overweight, lose those extra pounds. Losing just ten pounds can reduce your blood pressure significantly.

Being inactive is another key factor in developing hypertension and is naturally linked with being overweight. Therefore, you can kill two birds with one stone by exercising more in order to lose weight. Eating too much sodium (table salt) is another factor in high blood pressure, so this offers another opportunity to ‘double up’.

While you are attempting to lose weight in order to help reduce your hypertension, incorporate reduced-sodium recipes into your cooking habits. There are lots of low-sodium or low-salt recipes on the Internet and once you have been eating low-sodium for a week or ten days you will wonder why you ever used salt in the first place.

Salt is of course in some foods more than others, so you will have to have some assistance in the beginning, but just not adding any salt or sugar to any of your food or drink is a good start. Eating more fresh fruit and vegetables is another obvious thing to do. Try not to use tinned foods as salt is frequently used to ‘pump up the flavour’ and preserve cheap ingredients in tins.

Smoking is bad for you. We all know that, however it also increases blood pressure and so does drinking too much alcohol on a frequent basis. These are problematic lifestyle alterations to master, yet you could at least cut down.

Stress, fear, anger, worry and sleeplessness are also factors that increase hypertension and it is simple to see that they could all be interrelated. It is frequently said that exercise reduces stress and so that may now have a triple benefit. If you suffer from stress, meditation or yoga might help you as well.

In short, you can to do something about your hypertension. Some of the changes are not simple, yet just doing something on all these fronts will have an impact and perhaps keep you off medication for the rest of your life.

Have you ever been to a health spa resort? If you have not, then you ought to consider it. If you have never been pampered for a day or even a couple of hours, you do not know what you are missing. However, what many individuals, even those who do go to a health spa regularly, do not realize is that it is occasionally better to take one of the popular health spa salon day packages than to take isolated treatments.

One of the benefits of taking a spa salon day package is price, but another is compatibility. Individual treatments such as a facial can seem expensive when it is likened to a home application done by yourself, yet a package may include a facial, a haircut and a make over for not much more.

Spa salon day packages be likely to concentrate on one particular region, but they take that region by storm. The region concerned could be your face, your feet, your thighs or your tummy or perhaps only your skin in general. Whichever region you choose to have a go at, you will come out of the health spa after a spa salon day package feeling a lot better than when you went in.

Here are some examples of spa salon day packages that you might find at your local spa.

A ‘Girls’ Day Out’ package is normally a ‘pamper package and is intended for a group of girlfriends to go together. This type of spa salon day package will usually include a wrap, a facial and a massage with free health drinks like fruit juice.

A “Bridal Group Booking” is intended for the bride and her entourage of bridesmaids, but it is naturally up to the bride who is invited. A wedding is a very stressful affair and so this spa salon day package is intended to be a stress-reliever. This package may be a gift from the bride to herself and her friends or a present from someone else. It will often include aromatherapy, a facial, a pedicure and a manicure.

A ‘Men’s Mates Spa Package’ is a often a general maintenance programme concentrating on the regions that most men overlook. This will frequently include a broad-spectrum skin toner concentrating particularly on rough and dry patches; a facial; a manicure, a pedicure and a scalp massage with oil.

A ‘Teenagers’ Get Together’ would be comparable to the males’ package but it would concentrate more on the face and back, especially if the teenagers are suffering from pimples or acne. A teenagers’ spa salon day package is a useful way of introducing teenagers of both sexes to the ways of taking care of their body.

Besides these spa salon day packages, there might also be sampler packages so that you get a trimmed down version of several treatments. This is fantastic for the first timer, especially teenagers who might be taking care of themselves in ways that their parents maybe did not have the time or money for.

If you want to check your blood pressure at home, you will require a blood pressure monitor. These monitors are not of necessity very expensive but are within the budget of most households. There are basically two kinds of home monitor: aneroid and digital.

The aneroid monitor has a dial-type gauge and you read off your blood pressure figures from that. It also has a cuff, which you wrap about your arm and which you inflate with a rubber bulb. The digital monitors also use a cuff, yet it can be manually or automatically blown up. The results are read from a small screen. The choice is yours, but most people prefer the automatic digital monitor.

An aneroid home monitor is portable and necessitates neither batteries nor electricity and is somewhat cheaper than the digital version. It also has a stethoscope built into the cuff for simple monitoring. A difficulty could arise in noisy surroundings or if the user is hard of hearing. Someone with arthritic hands or fingers might have an issue squeezing the bulb too.

Digital monitors are more expensive, yet they are more well-liked as well despite that, because they can be entirely automatic. The screen is also easier to read and some units come with a small printer to create a physical record of your readings. Other digital home monitors have a memory.

The one I use has three memories of thirty spaces each so that you can compare records over a month. Having three memories means that you can monitor and record readings for three separate individuals or three separate time slots for one person over the period of a month. If you go for three time slots they could be morning, noon and night, as blood pressures differ during the day.

Whichever type of monitor you decide on, make certain that the cuff is the right size for you. Be especially cautious if you have very substantial or very thin arms. Check the age range for the monitor too. Mine says for use only on people more than 18 years, yet does not say why.

If electricity or batteries is ever likely to become a difficulty, then the automatic digital home monitor may not be for you, although you may be able to rig it up to photovoltaic cells to exploit the sun’s rays.

Neither of these units are difficult to use, when you know how, so be sure that the instruction book does not look as if it was translated by machine. It is of course vital to know how to take precise readings and how to interpret them. In order to check the accuracy of your device it is worth taking it with on your next visit to your physician.

You can check your readings against those of his sphygmomanometer, which is thought of as the gold standard of blood monitoring devices. Your GP will also be able to tell you what your systolic and diastolic pressures ought to be.

Today, each schoolboy knows the story of William Webb Ellis, the Rugby School pupil “who with a fine disregard for the rules of football as played in his time, first took the ball in his arms and ran with it”. The presentation trophy for the Rugby World Cup is named the Webb Ellis trophy in his honour, and his “achievement” is commemorated by a plaque at the school

There is only one problem with this story. It simply is not a fact. It was not until four years after the death of Webb Ellis in 1876 that the story first saw the light of day and its source is thought to come from a local antiquarian and previous Rugbeian Matthew Bloxam.

He was not a contemporary of Webb Ellis and says that the story was related to him by an unnamed source some 53 years after the incident is alleged to have happened.

In 1823, when the event is supposed to have occurred, the rules of rugby had yet to be written and any changes, such as the legality of carrying or running with the ball, were often agreed on an ad hoc basis a short time before the start of a game.

There were thus no formal rules for football during the period William Webb Ellis was at the school (1816-25). It was not until 1845, some 200 years after football was first played at Rugby School, that three pupils published the first written rules of the game.

For many years it had been the boys, and not the masters who had laid down the rules which were frequently modified by each new generation of students.

Guy’s Hospital Football Club, formed in London in 1843, by old boys from Rugby School, has robust claims to be the oldest football club in the world. It definitely predates by 14 years the creation of Sheffield FC, believed to be the oldest club playing association football.

In 1871, after a number of problematic disputes with the Football Association, 21 clubs met in London to create an association of those clubs ‘who play the rugby-type game’.

And so the Rugby Football Union (RFU) was formed. The first International rugby game was played on 27 March 1871 between England and Scotland. The English team wore white shirts adorned with a red rose and the Scots brown shirts with a thistle. (Scotland won the game).

The worries and conflicts regarding amateurism and professionalism had long proved a thorny topic. The representatives of Yorkshire and Lancashire are accredited with bringing in rules concerning amateurism in 1879.

These rules were finally formalized by the RFU in 1886. It is widely believed that the northern clubs were in favour of the professional game whereas these northern bodies were robust advocates of amateurism,

However, conflict arose over the controversy regarding ‘broken time’, the issue of whether players ought to receive reimbursement for taking time off work to play.

The northern clubs had a substantial number of working class players who had either to miss games due to work commitments, or forego their wages in order to play rugby. By 1892, this issue of broken time repayments was difficult not just for northern clubs such as Bradford and Leeds but also for clubs in the south.

It became an anxiety of the RFU: these broken time repayments would become a rapid route to professionalism.

On 29 August 1895, 20 clubs from Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire met at the George Hotel, Huddersfield and decided to resign from the RFU and create the Northern Rugby Football Union, which from 1922 became the Rugby Football League.

The quarrel about payment was one which at the time was also affecting soccer and cricket. Each game had to work out a compromise; rugby’s position was the most radical. Amateurism was strictly enforced, and anyone accepting payment for playing rugby league was disqualified.

However, on 26 August 1995 the International Rugby Board declared rugby union an “open” game and thereby removed all restrictions on payments or benefits to those connected with the game.

It did this because of a committee’s decision that to do so was the only manner to end the hypocrisy of sham amateurism and to keep control of rugby union. The wheel had turned full circle.

If you are worried about your blood pressure getting too high, you will almost certainly go to your GP to seek advice. Your medical doctor will invariably like you to attempt some lifestyle changes or / and take medication if this does not work. Making lifestyle alterations is the first tactic, but it does not always work. It normally does, but just not always.

However, it is vital to try to reduce your blood pressure, also called hypertension, before you go on medication. Lots of individuals are of the opinion that once your body relies on medication to moderate its hypertension, you will never be able to get yourself off the tablets. This is what my GP told me. Therefore, if it goes against your personal beliefs to take tablets, now is the time to do something about it.

The first thing to do is quit smoking and if you regularly drink too much alcohol, to cut back on that too, as both actions will have the effect of raising your blood pressure. Adopting these measures will also have knock-on effects for the remainder of your body. You will be fitter in general by not smoking at all and not drinking very much.

The next thing to do is to increase your degree of daily activity. Do you do any exercise at all? If not, you will be amazed at how much two thirty-minute sessions of light exercise will help. Walk for thirty minutes in the morning and evening or replace one walk for thirty minutes gardening or swimming.

Diet is another way of beating off the hypertension tablets. Salt, or sodium as it is often referred to, is a major cause of hypertension, mostly because it encourages water retention. So, cutting back on salt or following a sodium depleted diet can have a major impact on your blood pressure.

Try substituting something else for salt: more pepper, a mixture of some other herbs or just leave it out altogether. After a few weeks you will not notice, except that everyone else’s cooking will taste very heavily over-salted! I did this fairly successfully.

Add more fresh fruit and vegetables to your diet, because that will also decrease your hypertension. Eating less fat and red meat will also help. Stress is a major factor in hypertension, strive to relax a bit more and possibly take up meditation or yoga.

If you are on medication, it is possible that the drugs are raising your blood pressure. If you think that this may be true, take your drugs to the GP and ask his opinion. You may be able to replace some of them. Some of the drugs that can have an adverse impact are: oral contraceptives, steroids, anti-depressants and cold / flu medicines.

You will notice that lots of these methods for decreasing your (possible) hypertension are related, so if you are an over-weight, inactive smoker who likes a drink, you can do a great deal by remedying that and your pressure will fall and you will become healthier in other ways as well.

More than a million individuals a year in the Unites States alone experience eye injuries, but the vast majority of them are preventable and more than ten percent of them are caused by everyday household products.

More than a million individuals a year in the Unites States alone experience eye injuries, but the vast majority of them are preventable and more than ten percent of them are caused by everyday household products.

All this despite the fact that most individuals would rather undergo almost any injury than lose their sight. Just think about what you would miss if you lost your eyesight. If there is a risk to your eyes at work, your employer should be providing you with safety specs and making it compulsory for you to wear them on pain of dismissal., but what about at home?

Just as much supervision should be exercised at home because there are many dangerous chemicals and objects used there too. Adolescents are the prime victims of eye injuries in the home for several reasons, but mostly because they do not have much experience and they do not comprehend the potency of some domestic chemicals.

In order to teach young individuals in your family unit to be safe with their vision, it is best to direct by example. The first step to take is to wash your hands after using chemicals which could burn or aggravate the sensitive tissue of your eyes. Among these dangerous chemicals you can include cleaning agents, bleach, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides and paint.

If you are using these types of chemicals, always read the safety directions first and then put safety specs on. Never spay in the direction of anyone and if you are outside, take notice of which way the wind is blowing and do not let people stand down wind of you when you are working with chemicals.

Many children and adolescents love to help older people do chores, so it is up to you to take care of their safety, just like your employer attempts to take care of yours. So use safety specs, boots and gloves where appropriate and supply them for anyone helping you too.

If you are working indoors, make certain that everybody can clearly see what they are doing. If you are working in a normally dark place like the attic, under the stairs or in the basement, put a lead light there until you have finished the job.

If you live in an region where the sun is often very bright, teach adolescents to wear protective sunglasses. It is very simple whilst playing tennis outdoors for instance to go for the ball and accidentally look straight into the sun. This goes for a number of extremely lively, fast-paced sports.

Fireworks, darts, shooting and ball games are all obvious activities where caution should be exercised, but it is not the obvious sources of risk that give the biggest worries. How long do adolescents sit at computer monitors?

Computer screens are certainly better than they were, but we spend so long sitting at them. Make certain that there is some sort of filter between the computer display and your eyes.

If you wear specs anyway, have the next pair treated for use with computers or purchase a UV filter to fix to your display. Take frequent breaks from the computer and avoid straining your eyes.

Adolescents are also at risk from cosmetics. Be sure that your teenagers understand how and where to apply eye cosmetics safely to avoid inflammation or even damage to their eyes.

Aging has its advantages, like having more experience, having family and frequently having fewer financial worries, but it also brings other worries with it as well, usually health problems. One of the health worries that older individuals worry about is their eyesight.

Most people like to be independent, but blindness causes you to be dependent, particularly if you go blind whilst you are older. At least whilst you are younger, you have a long time to learn how to deal with it.

There are a number of ways that you can lose your sight when you are older but one that effects 10% of those more than 65 and 30% of those over 75 years is macular degeneration. It is often referred to as age-related macular degeneration, ARMD or just AMD because it tends to have an effect on those individuals who are more than 50 years of age.

However, macular degeneration only affects the centre 2.1% of your field of vision, so it is very rare for ARMD to become the cause of complete blindness. The difficulty is that that 2.1%, centre field of vision is highly important for recognizing people and for reading.

So what can you do about it, if you get ARMD? One option would be to get a guide dog, a ‘blind dog’, as they say in the UK or a ‘seeing eye dog’ as they say in America. A guide dog will help prevent you from bumping into objects, which you may well do if you lose your middle field of vision.

Most registered blind individuals are not totally blind. Some are worse off than others but sufferers of ARMD normally retain 97.9% of their field of vision, which is the peripheral vision. A guide dog would cover the remainder for you.

Guide dogs are taught as puppies so they will stay with their blind friends for seven or eight years or more This allows the dog and the owner to build up a wonderful relationship, as all people do with their dogs. However, the rapport of a blind person with a guide dog though is extra-special. The dog knows that it is being depended upon for its master’ safety.

If you choose to go down the road of procuring a guide dog, the best place to begin is your national association for the blind, the address of which you can find either at your doctor’s, in Yellow Pages or on the Net. Some countries’ organizations will charge you for providing a guide dog and others will subsidize your procuring a guide dog and its training.

It would be a good idea to arrange a guide dog as soon as you are diagnosed with a disease that threatens your eyesight because that will give you more time to get to know and select a puppy as your future companion.

If you are lucky and your physician saves your eyesight, you have lost nothing and you have acquired a wonderful, intelligent friend, but if the worst comes to the worst, you will have an invaluable, seeing, protective, wonderful, intelligent friend. You cannot lose.

It is nice to soak in a hot tub, is it not? After a long day at the hamster wheel or sorting the family out – driving the kids to and from school and then to the scouts, sports club or music lessons. Being stuck in traffic on the way home or waiting in the queue at the supermarket, a long soak in a hot tub helps wash it all away.

Imagine then what a hot tub spa or Jacuzzi could do? Sitting in a hot spa tub with a long cool drink whilst half a dozen jets are blasting hot water and bubbles at you, massaging you gently, easing the stresses of the day away.

You could place one in the garden or in the bathroom. You could even buy a portable hot spa tub and move it into the garden in the summer and back inside in the winter. If you ask most individuals what they want to have in the way of home improvement, a swimming pool would probably be number one and a Jacuzzi number two.

There again, a lot of people do not have the room for a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi is a lot cheaper than a swimming pool as well. Water has a calming effect on individuals. Maybe it is a primeval memory of when we came out of the sea millions of years ago or maybe it is a more recent memory of being in the womb.

Whatever the reason or even mixture of reasons, individuals like to be in, around or on water, it relaxes and invigorates us. And frothing, bubbling water is even more relaxing and even more invigorating. Hence the popularity of hot tub spas.

Another reason might be gravity. All day long we are lumbering about, each foot step sending shock waves into our body and gravity pulling down on so that we feel every ounce of our weight, but as soon as we are in water, we are buoyed up and the effects of our weight and of gravity are felt far less.

In fact, up to 30% less. Additionally, we are ninety-odd percent water, so no surprise we feel tranquil in a hot tub. But that is not all that a soak in a hot tub does. It warms you right through, through to the marrow and that relieves minor aches and pains. The reduction in gravity is also said to be a relief to sufferers of arthritis.

There are possibly other reasons as well why individuals feel more relaxed in a tub of hot water, especially a whirlpool type spa tub, but one for me is that I will not get out of the tub for anything except to get another drink. Once I am in there, I do not care if the phone rings or the door bell chimes. The house would have to be on fire to get be me out before my skin looks like a wrinkled old prune.

Water can be dangerous particularly for families with small children, so each family with a hot tub ought to have some type of safety policy. This article will give some fundamental hot tub safety tips that can be adopted by families for the protection of its children and other members.

The first safety tip for hot tubs is never to leave children alone with a hot tub full of water. It is not a matter of whether the child can swim or not. Children play, fight and mess about. They could fall over, bang their head, be knocked unconscious and drown. There are a number of scenarios where this could happen and it is simply better to not give bad luck a chance. Do not allow children in a tub on their own or even anywhere close by it if it is full.

It is fairly usual to have an alcoholic drink whilst in the hot tub in the evening, but be wary not to become drunk. It is very dangerous to be out of control or even fall unconscious while you are in or in water and this goes doubly for a hot tub because they are so relaxing. The warm water, the soothing motion of the water and excess alcohol or other drugs could lead to you falling asleep and drowning.

However, it is not only while you are in the tub that being drunk is risky, being a bit wobbly is arguably even more perilous when you are getting in or out of the tub because you could fall, bump your head and drown while unconscious. Never let anyone use your hot tub if they are intoxicated or stoned unless there are sober or straight people there as well. This rule ought to be applied to those on medication as well.

Another danger, be it ever so slight is that of long hair being sucked into the filtration and cleaning system. If a young child with long hair had its hair sucked into the drain, it could have difficulty getting back above the water line, particularly if it panicked. Another reason never to leave children unsupervised in a pool or spa.

It is a good idea to know how to turn the spa’s motor or pump off quickly, so that if there is problem with hair entanglement, you can release the child by turning the pump off quickly which should release the child.

The electricity supply to the tub will be pretty well protected, especially if it was installed by a professional, but is worth checking every now and again that the cables are all still shielded from water, because as we all know, water and electricity do not mix well.

Also keep this in mind if you take any mains powered apparatus like a radio, TV or computer to the spa with you too. Locate all electrical devices well away from the spa and far enough away that they will not get splashed. They can be controlled by a remote device without any danger.

Only children like the idea of getting older, most adults want to halt the aging process or even set it going backwards, if they could. However, as we all know, that is impossible, which is why they invented the next best thing, day spas, beauty salons and all the creams, lotions and treatments that they provide to endeavour to stem the results of aging.

And to be fair, some of them can do a pretty good job. In this piece, we will look at the services offered by day spas. A day spa is comparable to a beauty salon but with water events offered too. A day spa is an extended beauty salon and may be located in a larger place, especially if there is a swimming pool on site.

The main difference between a beauty salon and a day spa is that in a beauty salon, you are given all your treatments and then you leave, whereas in a day spa, you can hang about a bit in between treatments or remain in the pool or sauna longer than the allotted 15-20 minutes, if you want to.

A day spa is more relaxed and people tend to spend more time in them. There may even be a bar or a juice bar or / and a place to get light, health snacks like a salad or a vegetarian sandwich.

One of the most popular treatments at a spa is the massage. There are different types of massage, so it may take you a time to find your favourite if you have not had a massage before. Some of the types of massage frequently on offer are: Thai massage, Japanese massage, full body massage, oil massage and a foot massage. Additionally, some spas will use hot towels on your face to clean out pores and hot stones on your spine for deep heat.

You might also fancy a body wrap or a mud pack or even a mud bath! These treatments can really make your skin look younger by deep cleaning the pores of pollutants, make up and everyday grime. They make you feel ten years younger for a while, but they tighten up the skin and make you look younger for a time as well.

Perhaps you would prefer to concentrate on your hands and / or feet? Then you could have a full manicure and / or pedicure. These treatments could include a local massage, skin and nail treatments followed by an oil treatment. You could also be given a foot spa, which is like a mini-jacuzzi. A foot spa is fantastic if you have been on you feet all day. They might also use heated socks or mittens.

Half an hour in a hot tub, a jacuzzi or even a steam box are other services that may be there at day spas which you are unlikely to find in a beauty salon. When you arrive at the day spa, check out any cheap day packages. You can often save a bit of money on the individual treatments supplied.

Have you ever thought about getting away from it all and going on a huge detox mission? There is a great deal to be said for giving your body a break from all the pollution, smoke, noise, fast-paced lifestyle and stress and the substances that we use to handle that stress like alcohol, tobacco, coffee and worse. It is not so bad while your body is young, yet as it gets older, it becomes less capable of dealing with all the stuff we give it to deal with.

Costa Rica may sound like a long way to go to visit a spa or health resort, but it is just a flight away. The reason for selecting Costa Rica is because it is like a home from home for Americans, and the ambiance is a lot slower and more easy-going. There are lots of health spas and retreats to choose from in Costa Rica and a brief search on the Internet will reveal many of them.

Spanish is the foremost local language, but English is spoken by over ten percent of the adult population and tourist facilities are well developed in the form of exchanging currencies, restaurants and hotels. The country is unpolluted and environmentally friendly.

For instance, according to Wikipedia, Costa Rica is ranked third in the world and first among the Americas in terms of the 2010 Environmental Performance Index and in 2007, the government declared that it intended for Costa Rica to become the first carbon neutral country by 2021. Moreover, the Happy Planet Index ranks Costa Rica as number one in the world and also as the “greenest country in the world”.

Where better could you go to escape pollution and stress than a health spa or retreat in such a country? Many of the resorts offer stress reducing schemes that include methods of relaxation such as yoga, meditation, reiki, massage and tai-chi, although there are lots of places offering water sports such as diving, sailing and surfing. There is fantastic diving to be had in warm, clear water, which is teaming with flora and fauna.

Prices are low when compared with the United States. You can get a hotel or a room in a retreat for $25-$50 and up and a good meal will cost $2-$4. There are all sorts of food but particularly the types of food associated with Spanish and American cuisine. Vegetarians are well catered for as well and there is fish and other seafood in profusion for those who rather it to meat.

Some of the health spa resorts have rooms for you to stay in while others offer just day time courses. The retreat style resorts are live-in and many are similar to communes. The facilities vary from being ‘hippyish’ and pretty basic in some of the retreats to being as modern as anywhere in the world in the health spas, offering swimming pools, gymnasiums and hot tub spas.

All in all, if you are thinking of going abroad for a healthy, restful break, a holiday in Costa Rica should be on your short list.

When someone takes a cholesterol blood test, there will normally be four numbers returned which refer to the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), triglycerides and total cholesterol. The GP will be looking to see if any of these statistics is significantly above the norm for your age and sex.

If they are rather high, then the physician will make one of two recommendations. First of all, the doctor ought to recommend lifestyle changes but if these fail then it is a lifetime of medication. Some individuals have cholesterol issues for genetic reasons and for these individuals, medication might be the only answer.

The most common lifestyle changes that are usually recommended are dietary alterations and exercise. If your readings are particularly high, you may have to take severe measures to lower your cholesterol levels quickly.

Regrettably, once people start taking anti-cholesterol tablets, they rarely come off them, so it is better to attempt other ways first of all. The predominant ways are decreasing dietary saturated fat and increasing the degree of exercise significantly.

Most individuals have an idea what cholesterol is and that it has two aspects, but not a lot of people know what triglycerides are. Triglyceride is also a sort of fat and if it is in profusion, it is a frequent indication that cholesterol is high as well, which means that it is an indicator of possible future heart disease.

The quickest manner of decreasing the levels of these fats in your blood is to stop eating saturated fats and trans fats. Red meats and full-fat dairy products are our main source of saturated fat. This means that if you would like to engage the emergency brake, give up eating junk food, steak, pork, cheese and cream and stop drinking milk. You ought to also cut out trans fats which are hydrogenated vegetable oils as used in some margarines, pastry and crisps.

Putting an immediate block on these foods will have an immediate and spectacular impact on your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. If you need a spread on your bread, try one of those that actually reduce cholesterol levels rather than raise them.

The best thing is to begin with breakfast. Forget anything fried; porridge is very beneficial for you as is wholemeal bread. You can have an occasional boiled, poached or scrambled egg, because it is a myth that eggs are perilous to the sufferer from high cholesterol.

Steak and pork have to be restricted to very occasional treats, yet chicken without skin is not very bad for you and fish is positively good. Try to boil, grill or steam food rather than fry it yet if you need to use oil, use olive oil.

Fresh fruit, vegetables and grains are great allies in the fight against high cholesterol, and so is exercise. Exercise does not have to be energetic, a half-hour’s walk in the morning and the evening will help a great deal. If you cannot find the motivation, adopt a dog.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on several topics, but is now concerned with low fat low cholesterol diet.

A substantial part of First Aid training can be applied to a wide spread of circumstances, but there are also particular situations where specialist information is necessary. This is fairly straightforward to understand, because a bump or a scrape can happen under any circumstances, but phenol poisoning would almost certainly only happen in an industrial mishap.

There is not much point in learning how to help victims of certain accidents if you are extremely unlikely to ever be able to apply that information. However, you ought to take advantage of each free or subsidized dedicated course that you are offered at work. The same can be stated for any pastime that you have, although you will almost certainly have to pay for the course yourself.

In this situation, I am thinking of swimmers, yachters, campers, hikers and people involved in sports or pastimes of that nature. After all, there is less point in knowing how to save a drowning person if your hobby is hiking or mountaineering. Knowing First Aid pointers in the wilderness is very helpful, but they are more likely to include, stroke, heart attack, broken bones and unconsciousness.

You are in essence on your own while you are in the outback or on a mountainside. If you are with a partner, all well and good, you are safer, but there is also two times the chance of an accident. However, there are more common reasons for concern than actual physical accidents.

Some of the far more common problems that happen whilst you are wandering in some wilderness or other are exhaustion, dehydration and insect bites. If you are walking in the winter or above the snow line, then there is also frostbite and hypothermia to take into account.

In general, there are also snake bites and bites from large animals to consider. Fractured bones due to a fall are fairly common, so if you are planning a trek into the wilderness, you actually do have to be ready, because, if your phone is receiving a signal and the battery is charged, it could still take hours for help to come to you.

If you have a penchant for wandering in the wilderness, the first thing to do is not go alone. Make certain that you go with someone who has more knowledge than yourself until you can honestly say that you are competent to lead someone else into a very perilous region where help is hours away by helicopter.

If you have studied how to go into the wilderness by partnering someone else, you ought to be all right. Another way of learning is to join the Scouts. Learning in this manner will give you lots of time to pick up tips on how to deal with exceptional situations.

Do not pretend that you are competent to lead someone else if you do not have the skill. Being stuck tens of miles from anywhere in the dark with a broken leg and no notion what to do is not going to impress anyone.

Cholesterol is a main contributing factor in causing heart attacks. However, our own bodies make cholesterol so it can not be all that bad. In fact, we need some cholesterol and apart from that there are two kinds, one of which is called ‘good cholesterol’ and the other as ‘bad cholesterol’.

LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is the ‘bad cholesterol and HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is the ‘good cholesterol’. Both are fatty, waxy substances made by the liver that float around the body in the blood. LDL levels can rise to the point that it can block blood vessels and interfere with the operation of the heart resulting in heart disease and heart attack. LDL comes mostly from the ingestion of saturated fats in red meat, full-fat milk, cheese and cream and from hydrogenated trans fats.

HDL assists clear out the LDL, so a diet that is good for cholesterol will endeavour to reduce the consumption of LDL-producing food and increase the consumption of HDL-producing food. In general, the foods that do this are fruits, vegetables, grains and fish. However, a high cholesterol level (bad cholesterol, that is) is more complex than just diet. It is also important to maintain a correct body weight and to exercise on a regular basis.

Having healthy levels of cholesterol is actually an on-going maintenance programme and has a lot to do with just living an active, healthy life. This means not eating a great deal of red meat, eating fish twice a week, consuming at least five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day, not over doing the dairy products, drinking skimmed milk (or none at all), cutting back on cheese and varying your diet and exercising every day, even if it is just in the fashion of going for a walk twice a day.

Although there can be genetic reasons for high cholesterol, most people can solve this problem quite easily by exercise and diet. Doctors say that cutting out all forms of saturated fat and trans fat is the single most valuable fashion of reducing your LDL cholesterol levels, so that is the obvious way to start. Grains and pulses are good because they contain so much fibre which is helpful for removing cholesterol.

This suggests that eating porridge in the morning instead of bacon and eggs and having some form of lentil soup with whole grain bread before dinner would be steps in the right direction. Snacks throughout the day and sweet at mealtimes ought to be fruit. Citrus fruits are particularly efficient at helping to remove cholesterol.

Other items of food that are thought to lower cholesterol are nuts like walnuts and almonds; onions and garlic; olive oil and soya bean products. Although cooking in olive oil will help a great deal, it is also a good idea to avoid frying whenever there is a possibility of cooking in another way. Grilling and steaming are the best methods of cooking most fish and vegetables and it helps retain the vitamin and nutrient content of the food too.

Do you go to a local spa occasionally or are you thinking of pampering yourself in the near future? A massage or, even and a sauna makes a terrific difference to how you feel that day and that sensation can last a number of days. You feel livelier, invigorated, up for anything that the world can throw at you. Those are good enough reasons for going to your local spa once or twice a week on their own, |but I will give you five good reasons for buying a spa day package.

Firstly, spa day packages are carefully planned series of treatments designed to compliment each other. One package might be for your skin and pores another on precise beauty treatments like eyes, hair, hands and feet, while others might concentrate on cellulose, thighs and buttocks.

In short, if you take a spa day package, you can have a set of treatments to help resolve a difficulty that has been suggested by an expert. Rather than guessing what might be good for your precise condition yourself, a package will lead you down a well-trodden path which might include a traditional massage, massage with hot stones, aromatherapy, a facial, a herbal or mud wrap, hot towels, exfoliation or numerous other treatments.

Secondly, you will be able to decide on a package that suits what you would like. For example, if you are on your feet all day, you might want a spa day package that concentrates on sore feet. A full pedicure, in fact, including a foot massage with oils, nail treatment and a long soaking in a foot spa of herbal water.

Thirdly, there is a very good likelihood that the price of the spa day package will be a great deal less than the combined price of all he treatments if you were to buy them separately. In other words, spa day packages ought to be discounted and if you go with a friend or two, maybe you can ask for a further discount for a group booking. Who knows? If you do not ask, you do not get!

Fourthly, a day spa package is like a mini-holiday. Spending several hours in a relaxing atmosphere with specialists pampering you is a wonderful experience. Most people simply do not want to go away when they are getting towards the end of their day spa package.

Fifthly, not just that, but the experience is so good that it becomes addictive. You will want to go back again and either take the same set of treatments or try a different spa day package. Try it and see. A day spa package puts a whole new meaning to the phrase: ‘I am only popping out for a massage’.

The Olympic Games are a sporting occasion played every two years at international level. A number of competitions are arranged where thousands of athletes from around the globe take part. The history of this immense sporting competition dates back to the 5th Century AD.

The Olympic Movement classified the Olympic Games into the Winter Olympic Games, the Summer Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games during the 20th and 21st Century.

The Paralympic Games are organized for after the Olympic Games and these are for disabled athletes. The Youth Olympic Games are for teenagers and were first held in 2010. The Olympic Charter defines the structure of the International Olympic Committee i.e. the governing body of the Olympic Games.

The Olympic flag carries five interlocking circles of red, blue, yellow, green and black and was introduced in 1920. The Olympic motto says ?Swifter, Higher, and Stronger?.

Some of the sports events held in the Summer Olympics are baseball, badminton, basketball, cycling, boxing, diving, soccer, sailing, rowing, hockey, water polo, wrestling, swimming, weightlifting, tennis etc.

Games played during the Winter Olympics are skiing, ice hockey, skating, ski jumping, curling, free style skiing, cross country skiing, down hill skiing,

A gold medal is presented to every first winner while silver and bronze medals are presented to the second and third winners respectively. Victory Diplomas are the certificates which are given to some top winners of every sport. The Olympic Flame is lit according to a custom associated with these games.

A new flame is lit for each Olympics in the Ancient Olympic Stadium in Olympia, Greece. This flame is taken to the host country where the games are to be held.

The flame is carried over the whole host country by individuals walking, running, scuba diving, riding, and using other types of transport. Actually, a number of torches are carried around the country where the games are held.

The sizeable Olympic torch is lit by the last runner carrying the torch. This substantial torch keeps burning throughout the games. The flame is put out at the end of the games during the closing ceremony. A new torch is designed for every Olympics.

Just about all the nations of the world are represented at these games. National and international media coverage provides a opportunity to unknown athletes to be famous. The host city and country gets a chance to showcase their country to the world.

The host country organizes and funds the whole event. Over 13,000 athletes compete in the Summer and Winter Olympics in more than 400 activities.

Many challenges are faced when organizing this mega event. Some of the major challenges are terrorism, bribery of officials, boycotts and doping. The host city is usually chosen seven years ahead of the Olympic Games.

The United States has had the chance to host four Summer and four Winter Olympics. No other nation has hosted so many Olympic games.

The next Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held in London in 2012. Women are being particularly promoted to participate in these games. Female athletes will be able to take part in all the men?s sports in the coming Olympics for the first time. Women?s boxing has also been introduced thereby ending gender discrimination.

There is nothing per se wrong with following a vegetarian regime if you are expecting a baby. Whether you were a vegetarian before you became pregnant or you have decided to become a vegetarian now that you are pregnant, the issue is the same as that for all mothers-to-be: namely, to make sure that you and the baby get all the vitamins and nutrients that you both need.

This is a somewhat harder quest if you are only beginning down the vegetarian road because of your lack of information, yet it is not that hard. There is so much knowledge on the Net and in books now, and the doctors will be monitoring you, so you should not miss out on anything you both require.

Your baby will have to grow a few pounds of bones, so calcium is one of your foremost priorities yet it is also one of the nutrients that a non-vegetarian can leave meat to provide. If you are at the level of being a vegetarian where you eat meals of meat and three veg but without the meat, you must have a major rethink, and you could take supplements and eat tofu, broccoli and other dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and cabbage.

Vitamin D is easy, but you do need a frequent supply of it. Our skin synthesizes Vitamin D from sunlight, so you have to go out in the sun for half an hour a day or more. However, it is no good going out in the midday sun with sunblock on.

It is better to go outside in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is less expected to burn you. It does not even have to be bright sunlight for your body to make Vitamin D.

Vitamin B12 is abundant in red meat, yet hardly present at all in plants. However, there are a few vegetable sources of vitamin B12: soya (tofu) is one of them and vitamin-enhanced vegetarian products (usually cereals) are another.

Even so, you will almost certainly have to take supplements to acquire enough vitamin B12 for an expectant mother. Fortunately, your doctor will be keeping an eye on your Vitamin B12 intake and he or she will be able to counsel you.

You will also need lots of iron, which is also plentiful in meat, and also in many vegetables. You have to have iron to keep your blood in decent shape and a lack of iron shows up as aenemia.

Again, dark green, leafy vegetables are the order of the day here as are beans, seeds and nuts. However, due to the quantity of iron that you will require, you might need supplements for this one too.

You require protein. A normal diet gets protein from dairy products like milk and cheese; from eggs and from meat and fish. You may or you may not be eating some of those products, but if you are not then you will need to derive your protein from somewhere else. Tofu is a decent source of vegetable protein, but vegetable protein is a pretty difficult one to find if you do not like tofu.

You will need zinc which again is abundant in meat. If you are looking for a vegetable source there are lots in the form of grains – all the different sorts of grains including those used for bread,

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on several subjects, and is now concerned with low fat low cholesterol diets.

Whether you are trying to reduce your high blood pressure or whether you are trying to stave of getting high blood pressure, there are a couple of things that you can do. However, just like giving up smoking or drinking, it means lifestyle alterations which are always very hard to instigate. Essentially, safely lowering high blood pressure means exercise, diet and altering behavior.

This piece will give tips for safely lowering high blood pressure, none of which present any risk to you unless I mention them in this piece.

The first thing to do, if you are worried about your blood pressure (BP), is to buy a BP monitor. They are not expensive and they are very comforting. Of course, you can go to your GP to have your BP checked, yet there are reasons why this approach is not accurate.

For instance, there is something known as the ‘white coat effect’, which means that people who are made uneasy by doctors can show a 25-50 point higher reading than is the actual case. However, you ought to take your BP monitor to your GP to compare it with the one there.

Once you know what your BP ought to be for your age and you have the means to get an accurate measurement of your BP, you are in a position to verify your progress in reducing it.

The first thing to do is regulate your weight. In order to do this, you will probably need to lose weight and to do this there are two tactics, both of which you should take. The first is exercise and the second is diet. The exercise constituent does not have to be strenuous – my physician told me to walk thirty minutes every morning and every evening.

The diet part is the solitary piece of advice I will give that needs checking with your GP. Sodium or table salt is definitely linked to water retention, weight and high blood pressure. However, giving up salt can be perilous if you have certain complications (especially thyroid) or if you live in a hot country. Therefore, confirm the salt diet with your Doctor.

If you smoke or drink alcohol to excess that will increase your BP. Perhaps it never did while you were younger, but as your body gets older, it certainly will. Smoking and drinking to excess frequently will raise your BP. No question about it.

Cut down on heavy foods like fatty meat. Not stop, but strive to substitute more fresh vegetables and fruit. This can be integrated into your diet easily enough.

Mood has an effect on your BP, so try to stay calm. This may mean taking up relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga, but it could also merely mean watching a film, going for a walk or listening to some classical music.

Swimming is very relaxing for me and lots of others as well. It is a means of relaxing but fighting the flab at the same time. Furthermore, coupled with some of the other suggestions for safely lowering high blood pressure may help keep you off medication for the remainder of your life.

Children often copy what they see. They are good learners and they are programmed to be just that. Once they can walk and talk they have roughly ten years to learn as much as they can before being given a lot of freedom to walk the world alone. This differs from country to country and from century to century, but the principle is the same.

Although most children are fairly heavily supervised during these ten years, a lot of children do spend a bit of time alone or only in the company of only other children. This means that it is a great concept to teach children some emergency measures. In the early days, First Aid training for kids could be as simple as teaching them to phone the emergency number if they see or get into trouble.

Thirty years ago while I was living in the Netherlands, I witnessed an attempted suicide by overdose. My friend was giving CPR and he asked me to go to the phone booth and call the ambulance. I went but once I got there, 999 (the UK emergency number did not do anything). I looked about in the phone box but could not see an emergency number although my Dutch was fluent. I had to go outside and stop a passer-by to enquire. I wasted minutes and he died.

Before a child goes off to school at five or six, children should know the basics like: the emergency number, not to talk to strangers, not to get into anyone’s car, that blood is dangerous and needs to be treated and that bones break, so to take care when running about. Anything else would be a bonus.

You could also make a First Aid kit with your child. You could sit down, discuss the contents of a functional, personal First Aid kit and then take your child to a pharmacy to purchase the odds and ends. When back home, you could discuss how to use the contents, pack them into a box and place that in the child’s school bag.

Get into the routine of going through the contents of the kit with your child to replace used and out-of-date items. This is also useful for reinforcing what the things are used for.

A First Aid kit for a school beginner could include soap, disposable gloves, plasters, iodine, calamine lotion, sunblock, a couple of small coins for the telephone and a card with your address and phone number on it..

Afterwards, as the years go by, you could add paracetamol, bandages, scissors, tweezers, matches and anything else you think is crucial.

You could extend the list of telephone numbers to include a trusted neighbour or grandparent in case you are engaged and maybe the head teacher at school as well. You could hold a short quiz from time to time in the guise of a game to make certain that your child knows what everything is for and who to phone.

Once your child gets to eight or nine, enroll him or her into the scouts, guides or a paramedical organization such as the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade to continue the First Aid training for kids.

Nowadays lots of individuals in their Forties and Fifties are being told that they have high blood pressure and that unless they make major lifestyle changes soon, then they will have to take blood pressure tablets for the remainder of their lives. The fact is, that once your body gets used to these tablets it is very hard to get off them.

Therefore, if you have been given this warning, take it seriously. The doctor’s advice can take different forms, but it usually encompasses: lose weight; stop smoking and drinking; take more exercise and eat less salt.

In the spirit of this latter piece of advice, I have put three low sodium soup recipes from three different countries in this piece. I hope you enjoy them.

Recipe One: Germany

Two Bean Soup (Zwei Bohnensuppe) (Serves Four)

1 1/4 cups white beans, dry 1 cup cut green beans 1 green onion, diced 1 potato, peeled & diced 2 tbls unbleached flour

Garnish =================== 4 oz ham, chopped 1/4 cup celery, chopped 1 onion, yellow, diced 1 tbls unsalted butter (optional) 3/4 cup beef broth, unsalted 1/4 tsp pepper 1 parsley, sprig

The beans can be either fresh or frozen, but do not use canned. Boil the beans until softish; add the potato and continue to boil. Add the flour to thicken when the potato is soft. Stir well. Serve in bowls and then add the garnish. Crispy bread is a good accompaniment.

Recipe Two: Ireland

Sorrel Soup (Serves Eight)

1 lb Sorrel 3 oz unsalted butter (or margarine) 1 large onion, chopped 2 tbsp flour (heaped) 2 1/2 l stock 2 tbsp breadcrumbs 1 pepper 2 egg yolks 150 ml cream

Wash the sorrel well and chop it up. Heat the butter or margarine in a saucepan and merely soften the sorrel and onion in it. Shake the flour on to the vegetables and blend well. Let it cook for about 1 minute. Meanwhile bring the stock to the boil, then add to the pan. Add the breadcrumbs, add pepper to taste, and bring to the boil, then simmer for around 1 hour covered. (It can get liquidized at this stage, if liked). Beat the egg yolks with the cream and add a little of the hot soup to the mixture, stirring well; then add slowly to the soup pot, mixing well over the heat, being careful not to let it boil.

Recipe Three: Russia

Borsch (Serves eight)

1 cup navy beans, dried 2 1/2 lb beef, lean 1/2 lb slab bacon 10 cups cold water 1 bay leaf 8 whole peppercorns 2 cloves garlic 2 tblsp parsley, dried 1 carrot 1 celery stalk 1 red onion, big, chopped 1 tsp salt (optional) 8 beetroots for soup 2 beetroots, small 2 cups green cabbage, shredded 2 leeks, big, sliced 3 potatoes, cut into eighths 1 can (1 lb 13 oz) tomatoes 1 tbspn tomato paste 3 tbspn red wine vinegar 1 lb kielbasa (optional) 2 tbspn flour 1 tbspn butter, melted 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)

Cover beans with water and permit to soak overnight; cook until tender; drain; set aside. Place beef, bacon and water in large soup pot; bring to the boil. Skim fat from surface. Add bay leaf, peppercorns, garlic, parsley, carrot, celery, onion. Cover and simmer on a low heat for around 1 1/2 hours.

Scrub beetroots for soup and cook in boiling water until soft, around 45 minutes; drain and dispose of water; cool. Peel and cut each beetroot into eighths. Scrub small beetroots; grate; cover with water and soak.

Remove meat from soup; lay aside. Strain soup into another pot and add cooked beetroot, cabbage, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, tomato paste, vinegar, sugar, beef and bacon.

Return to the boil and simmer for 45 minutes. Cut kielbasa into pieces and add with navy beans to soup. Simmer 20 minutes longer. Blend flour and butter together to make a paste. Stir into soup to thicken slightly. Strain raw beets, saving liquid yet discarding beetroots. Add beetroot liquid to soup.

Additional sugar or vinegar may be added for a sweeter or sourer flavour. Slice meat and place in individual soup bowls. Pour hot soup with vegetables on to meat. Garnish each serving with a spoonful of sour cream, if preferred.

Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1, and officially referred to as the FIA Formula One World is the highest class of single seater auto racing authorized by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

The “formula” in the name refers to a set of regulations with which all participants’ cars must comply. It is almost certainly the most widely watched televised spectator sport in the world after football.

Formula One can be seen live or tape delayed in almost every country and territory around the world and attracts one of the largest global TV audiences. The 2008 season attracted a global audience of 600 million people per race.

It is a massive television event; the cumulative TV audience was calculated to be 54 billion for the 2001 season, broadcast to two hundred countries.

This is a long way indeed from its early beginnings. The very first Formula One World Championship Motor race took place at Silverstone in the United Kingdom in 1950 . In those early days, teams who no longer compete on the modern F1 circuit dominated events with the very first World Championship being won by Italian Giuseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo.

His team mate, the legendary Juan Fangio, won the title almost continuously until 1957 and, in fact, his record of five World Championship wins held until 2003 when Michael Schumacher won his sixth title.

It was during this period that probably the greatest driver never to win the World Championship was competing – the U.K.?s Stirling Moss.

One team that did contend in those early years was Ferrari, or Scuderia Ferrari to give the team its full title, whose prancing horse logo is followed by the red shirted fans or ?tifosi? across the world. In fact, during the last few years the sport has been dominated by Ferrari who until recently has been one of the few teams to assemble the complete car, engine and all.

However the U.K. team of Maclaren, using engines from Mercedes Benz, have proved extremely successful. Another very successful team during the 2010 season proved to be Red Bull racing using engines provided by Renault.

It is interesting to note that in the cases of both Maclaren and Red Bull, they have proved much more successful than the teams fielded by their engine suppliers, Mercedes and Renault. This almost certainly goes a long way to sustaining the argument that it is the aerodynamic characteristics of the car that win races.

After several years in which we have seen the number of teams has stayed quite static or even declined, 2010 saw a renaissance in the number of cars on the grid with new entries from Lotus, Virgin Racing, and Hispania Racing bringing the number of starters to 24.

The calendar of races is also in a constant state of change with Korea joining for the 2010 season and India being added in 2011 as Formula 1 becomes more and more a world- wide spectacle as it moves away from its time-honoured European heartland.

But wherever the teams race and whatever the number of cars on the starting grid it will continue to set the pulses racing as those 5 red lights go out!

The actual order that the numbers involved in a blood pressure reading are given is systolic over diastolic. The systolic pressure is higher, because it is the reading taken whilst the heart actually pumps or beats and the diastolic pressure is lower because it is taken when the heart sucks in a fresh quantity of blood to pump around.

There are rough figures that doctors quote as ‘standard’, yet there is no clear, definitive consensus what these numbers are. In the west, most authorities will say that any reading under 120/80 is good. However, there are numerous medical professionals who will say that 140/80 does not require treatment, other than to lose a few pounds, if you are over weight.

This makes it very difficult for the unqualified person to ascertain for him or herself, whether his or her blood pressure is acceptable or not. Blood pressure monitors are very reassuring, very accurate yet not expensive these days, but how can you interpret the data they give you, if not every medical professional has the same opinion?

Perhaps the only way to get the most sense of this data is to go along to your general practitioner with your blood pressure monitor and talk about its findings with your doctor. Your doctor can use his or her sophisticated device and check it with yours then your doctor can give you a few figures that can be expected for someone like you.

I say this because there are a number of things that can affect blood pressure. In fact, actual blood pressure changes with every beat of the heart, so your blood pressure can be different every time you take it, which is why a BP monitor takes the average (or the maximum) over, say, a two minute period.

Factors that can (and often do) have an effect on blood pressure are:

The ‘White Coat Effect’: some individuals’ BP soars by as much as 25-50 points when they go into a doctor’s surgery. This could be anxiety or it could be fear of doctors, and it is a documented difficulty.

Mood: fear, anger, depression and anxiety can upset your blood pressure.

Age: your age has a bearing on your BP.

Weather: the temperature and the humidity affects BP

Stress: stress, restlessness, lack of sleep and tiredness can affect the levels of your blood pressure.

Diet: which foodstuffs and beverages you have recently consumed have an impact as do whether you are constipated or merely ‘full’.

Smoking: smoking and drinking alcohol affect blood pressure.

Exercise: your physical condition, your metabolism and the amount of exercise you take are also reasons.

Time of the Day: for all the above reasons and more, the time of the day that you take the reading has an impact, which is why it is a good idea to have your own blood pressure monitor at home. Then you can measure your BP at definite times of the day and compare the results with the hoped for levels of diastolic and systolic blood pressure given you by your physician.

There is plenty of cause to believe that all adults should keep one eye on their cholesterol levels. In early life, the body can deal with a bit of abuse, yet as we get older our bodies get less able to deal with the junk we give it. Furthermore, younger people are normally more lively than older people and exercise is a way of lowering cholesterol.

It is worth having your cholesterol levels tested at various stages of your life, because some people have genetic problems that result in too much cholesterol and it is worth knowing if you fall into this group as early as possible.

Before you begin working on your cholesterol you ought to know what they are. So, get your numbers and ask your doctor for an opinion. He or she might say that they are all right, that they are on the high side or that you had better do something about them immediately. Make certain that you make a note of these numbers which will be for your HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) levels.

Once you have these reference points and your medical doctor’s opinion you can decide on what action to take. In this article, we will talk about the three most helpful ways of decreasing your LDL level of cholesterol.

1] The most effective thing you can do to lower your LDL cholesterol is to reduce the amount of saturated fat and trans fat that you eat. People get most of their bad cholesterol from these two fats by a long chalk. Saturated fat comes from animal fat but particularly from red meat and full fat dairy products like milk, cream and cheese. Trans fats are hydrogenated fats, which are vegetable fats which have been ‘liquidized’ with water.

Merely cutting out these two sorts of fat may be sufficient to save you from taking medication for the remainder of your life. However, every body requires fat, so in addition to cutting these harmful fats out, you will have to replace some of them with mono-unsaturated fats and poly-unsaturated fats. These words are listed on products in a lot of countries.

In essence, it means cooking with olive oil and spreading better margarine on your bread. In fact there are even margarines and salad dressings now that actually lower cholesterol in their own right.

2] The second way to keep your cholesterol levels under control is exercise. Exercise burns up your LDL cholesterol. You do not have to do a lot to make a big difference. Hiking thirty minutes each morning and each evening can have quite a remarkable effect on your health particularly if you do not exercise at all at the moment.

3] The third most effective method of keeping your cholesterol levels correct is to maintain a good body weight. As you can see, by following a sensible diet and doing regular exercise, you will of necessity find your correct body weight. The whole system is really telling you that if you have a problem with cholesterol, then you are not living properly.

If you have recently been told that your cholesterol levels are out, you will probably be weighing up the options that your GP gave you. One option would be to take tablets and the other option would be to modify your diet and carry out more exercise. The alterations in diet are not radical, yet they could have a big impact. Exercising may be more of a difficulty to most individuals who lead a sedentary lifestyle.

People talk about cholesterol levels because there are two types of cholesterol. The two levels are HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol). LDL comes from animal fats (saturated fats), which are prevalent in red meat and full-fat dairy products like milk, butter, cream and cheese but it also is present in hydrogenated trans fats, which are common in margarines, pastry and crisps.

The first thing to do is strive to cut out saturated fats by changing to chicken and drinking low-fat milk. You could also replace the margarine or butter with one of the cholesterol-reducing margarines in the supermarkets. Just taking these two steps will make a huge difference to many individuals, however, others might have to go a little further.

Grains are very useful in the battle against cholesterol, because of the amount of fibre in them. Therefore, you could give up your traditional English breakfast of cereals with milk followed by sausage, bacon, eggs and fried bread and instead eat Scots porridge oats with water or skimmed milk followed by wholemeal toast and cholesterol-reducing margarine. This step alone will also significantly modify your cholesterol levels.

If you like a steak for lunch sometimes, you might not have to give it up completely, but if you usually order an eight ounce steak, order a four or six ounce one instead and if you have that four times a week, cut back to two instead. Replace the steak with meals of skinless chicken and fish. Omega 3 fish oil is considered to be a big ally in the fight against cholesterol.

If you eat a lot of junk food like greasy hamburgers and oily hot dogs, you will almost certainly have to give them up, but that is not a bad thing anyway. Strive to snack on citrus fruits as they are also your allies against LDL cholesterol.

It is not all doom and gloom on the dietary front for sufferers of cholesterol issues. The alterations that will be recommended to you to sort out your cholesterol problems have almost certainly already been made to you to sort out being over weight or having high blood pressure or even suffering from diabetes.

They are fundamental, sensible minor lifestyle changes which will have a enormous effect on a number of aspects of your body. The same is true of exercise. Most people know that they should exercise more, it is just a shame that most of us need such a significant incentive before we do anything about it.

Play’ from the Wakefield Yorkshire writer known simply as The Wakefield Master. In scene VIII Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur?s round table plays tennis with a band of giants.

However, this would have been the medieval form of tennis called real tennis which had developed over three centuries from an earlier ball game played in France about the 12th century.

This involved hitting the ball with the naked hand or later a glove and is thought to have begun with monks playing the game in monastery cloisters, judging by the construction and appearance of some of the early courts.

The game quickly proved to be a success among European royals and in England was taken up by Henry V in the early fifteenth century. A century later Henry VIII made the biggest effect as a young monarch, playing the game with enthusiasm at Hampton Court on a court he built in 1530.

The game flourished among the 17th century upper class in France, Spain, Italy, and in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but suffered under English Puritanism. By the time of Napoleon, the royal families of Europe were under threat and real tennis was mostly abandoned.

In England, during the 18th century and early 19th century, as real tennis became less popular, three other racquet sports emerged: racquets, squash racquets, and lawn tennis (the modern game).

The contemporary sport is tied to two separate inventions.Between 1859 and 1865, in Birmingham, England, Major Harry Gem, a solicitor, and his friend Augurio Perera, a Spanish merchant, united elements of the game of rackets and the Spanish ball game pelota and played it on a croquet green in Edgbaston.

In 1872, both men moved to Leamington Spa and in 1874, in the company of two doctors from the Warneford Hospital, established the world’s first tennis club. In December 1873, Major Walter Clopton Wingfield devised a comparable game for the enjoyment of his guests at a garden party on his estate of Nantclwyd in Llanelidan, Wales.

He based the game on the older real tennis. At the suggestion of Arthur Balfour, Wingfield named it “lawn tennis, and patented the game in 1874 with an eight-page rule book titled “Sphairistike or Lawn Tennis”, but he failed to succeed in enforcing his patent.

Tennis was first played in the U.S. at the home of Mary Ewing Outerbridge on Staten Island, New York in 1874. In 1881, the desire to play tennis competitively led to the establishment of tennis clubs, which led to the four Grand Slams, which are thought of as the most prestigious events on the tennis circuit.

They are: Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open and they evolved into and have remained the most prestigious events in tennis. Both the name and much of the French vocabulary of tennis are borrowed from real tennis:

Tennis comes from the French tenez, the imperative form of the verb tenir, to hold: This was a cry used by the player serving in royal tennis, meaning “I am about to serve!” (rather like the cry “Fore!” in golf). ?	Racquet comes from raquette, which derives from the Arabic rakhat, denoting the palm of the hand. ?	Deuce comes from ‘? deux le jeu’, meaning “to both is the game” (that is, the two players have equal scores). ?	Love is commonly believed to come from “l’oeuf”, the French word for “egg”, representing the shape of a zero. ?	The convention of numbering scores “15″, “30″ and “40″ comes from quinze, trente and quarante, which to French ears makes a pleasant sound, or from the quarters of a clock (15, 30, 45) with 45 simplified to 40.

Some individuals say that many of the items that are in a regular western diet are inherently bad for adult human beings. Their argument basically goes that if we were to cut out these things, then we would live longer, healthier lives. Before we take a look at some of these items, I want to point out that not everybody agrees with these points of view.

One of the most well-liked foodstuffs that is not much use to adult human beings is milk. Animal milk is simply too rich for humans and besides that it is acidic and mucous-forming Think about it: why would we be designed to require the milk of other animals after we have been weaned off our own mother’s milk because we no longer required it? It sounds ludicrous, does it not?

Maybe the reason we are told to drink milk is so that farmers can sell it to us. Some of the major problems with drinking milk is the amount of chemicals and growth hormones that were fed to the cow.

It remains in the milk for the benefit of her calves, and we drink the same cocktail of drugs and hormones that is intended to force calfs grow. Unfortunately, the antibiotics given to the cow and the pesticides in her feed also show up in the milk she produces. Regrettably for us humans that is. Milk is also loaded with cholesterol and it’s calcium content is a problem for humans to extract.

It is frequently said that drinking milk will help stave off osteoporosis because of the high calcium content of milk, but if it is a problem for us to extract, then that is a very dubious claim. Why take the chance when you can simply take a couple of calcium pills? In rural Thailand very, very few individuals eat any dairy products at all but a lack of calcium is not a local concern.

Eggs are not that healthy for you either because they are high in cholesterol. They also contain growth hormones, pesticides and antibiotics for the same reasons that milk does. Salmonella is a significant risk if the chickens are not dosed up to the eyeballs with antibiotics. Eggs can also lead to constipation.

Fish is considered a healthy alternative to meat, yet you have to be cautious with that too these days. There is so much heavy metal is some fish like tuna and salmon, that it is recommended not to eat these fish more than once a week.

So it cannot be good to eat it at all if you are eating doses of mercury and whatever else too.

Of course, not all vegetarians stay away from all the foodstuffs listed above. In fact, most vegetarians will eat fish, a few less will eat cheese, eggs and drink milk. The smallest group of common vegetarian creeds is the vegans who will eat none of the above – no animal products whatsoever may pass their lips.

Safety is a very necessary part of most sports, but even more so with some, like kiteboarding or kitesurfing as it is also called. It involves using a kite of between two and five metres in length to power surf across a flat surface of water.

This is where the greatest danger comes in, a sudden burst of wind can lift you off the water and carry you away. When the gust of wind drops, you could get dumped on rocks or slammed into the side of a building. The option is to let go of the kite but probably lose it. This gets costly, but being left alone in the open sea is not very attractive either.

The fact is that you can never be entirely safe while you are kiteboarding. However, the least you can do is make an effort. So wear a safety helmet and a vest that will both minimize injury from a crash yet also float. These two things alone will protect you from the lesser types of impact and help you to swim back to shore if needed.

Gloves and knee protectors will also help as will a pair of impact-resistant running or jogging shoes or trainers.

Never disable, and always make use of, any safety devices built into your apparatus. It is there for a point. Some of these features might be quick release buckles or buttons and safety straps so that the kite cannot be torn from your grasp, leaving you stranded far out at sea.

Be sure of the winds that you ride. Both on-shore and off-shore winds are dangerous because the one will carry you out to sea and the other could drag you into cliffs or buildings. The safest wind to ride is a side-shore wind. A side-shore wind will be blowing across the bay, parallel to the shore.

It sounds too obvious to say ‘avoid collisions’, but in a way a crash is more perilous at sea than on land. It will take longer to rescue you and longer to transport you to hospital and you may drown. Therefore, do not kiteboard in busy waters – where there are boats or swimmers. Strive to give a hundred metres clearance to anything that would hurt you if you hit it.

Check the weather forecast and the predicted wind speed and use a kite that is appropriate for that wind speed and your level of skill. Do not endeavor to run before you can walk.

Once your kite is aloft, get out on to the sea (or water) as soon as you can and when you are coming in, keep the kite low, so that there is less chance of you being carried away into the road or buildings.

Carry a knife when you go kitesurfing because lines becoming tangled up is not an uncommon phenomenon but this can have several unpleasant effects. It can lead you off to where you do not wish to go and it can snarl you up cutting deep into your flesh. Be certain that the knife itself poses no threat by keeping it in a robust sheath. Wear safety goggles to avoid being blinded by spray.

It is said that it is probable that most Americans and northern Europeans do not get enough sleep. A lack of sleep can lead to a shortage of concentration (which means being more accident prone); a weaker immune system (more illness) and depression. It is crucial to get enough quality sleep. We all require sufficient decent quality rest, sufficient good quality food and sufficient decent quality exercise.

Aging, or senescence, has its own peculiar effects on the body. In general, the body’s capacity to carry out certain functions slows down – it takes it longer to do things or get over things.

Sleep can be one of the functions that suffers and we call it insomnia. It is very often said that old people require less sleep. This is not necessarily true, but what is true is that they do often get less sleep.

Many people suffer from insomnia, not only older people. Worrying is a cause of sleeplessness; younger folk tend to worry about financial issues, older folk tend to worry about health complaints. Women tend to suffer from insomnia more often than men, perhaps they worry more.

Lack of sleep can cause high blood pressure, because the heart is supposed to be resting at night as well, that is it beats more slowly for about eight hours. High blood pressure brings more concerns. Regrettably, we tend to shrug off a bad night’s sleep as if it were an incidence of bad luck. The truth is it can have much more serious consequences than you first think.

In fact heart disease can be brought about by over sleeping as well as by under sleeping. One of the most common sleeping disorders and also one of the most difficult to detect is sleep apnoea. Doctors cannot detect it without the patient sleeping in hospital. Sufferers do not normally know that they have it.

The spouse is normally the first person to notice the difficulty: the partner wakes up spluttering with a gasp for air like a drowning man. The sufferer normally stops breathing for between ten seconds and two minutes. It can become very frightening for the partner, but the sufferer seldom wakes up because of it. This can happen dozens of times a night.

If you experience difficulties getting to sleep for a protracted length of time, you should seek professional help, but here are a few pointers you can try out. Do not do anything after 7 PM to raise your metabolism or blood pressure, so no strenuous exercise and no high calorie foods (like chocolates). A warm drink of cacao or hot milk assists a great deal of people to get to sleep, but not if you have to get up often to go to the toilet.

A sherry or a whisky helps others. An alcoholic drink like this at night is not going to turn you into a gibbering alcoholic (some individuals talk such drivel), but it can make sleep reliant on a drink. If you can sleep easily after merely one drink, you will be alright, if you need a great deal more, then the cure is getting to be more of a problem than the illness.

Stress and heart disease are well-known to be closely linked. How many times have you seen someone undergo a stressful moment and die in films? This is not a joke – it one of the few times that films are telling the truth.

Of course, there are other causes of heart disease too: obesity and smoking to name but two, but stress can be the final nail in your coffin if you do not take care of yourself.

There are several things you can do to reduce the risk of stress and heart disease. These include taking more exercise, learning how to unwind and not smoking.

Learn how to reduce your stress by other means than smoking and drinking and maybe you will not fall victim to stress and heart disease.

Financial stress is one the most common causes of stress and is also one of the most problematic to treat. The reason why financial stress is a problem to conquer is that if you actually care about your financial predicament, you are probably already doing everything that you can.

If you are already doing all you can to relieve your financial situation and you are still experiencing financial stress, then you will feel ensnared.

Office stress can grow very easily, but the reasons are wide-ranging. Office stress can start because you are worried about you job or because you think that you are an outsider. Office stress can also rear its ugly head because your boss is over-demanding or because you know that your career is beyond you.

There are methods of combatting office stress, but it is you who has to start the ball rolling.

A stress headache is a very real occurrence. In fact, it is thought that the majority of headaches are stress related. it is not for nothing, that |when individuals feel that they are losing it, that their hands go to their head.

Pain can be a result and this is probably a stress headache. Often a stress headache will start with tension in the neck and shoulders and will mutate into pain in the temples, behind the eyes – this is a real stress headache.

The indications of stress take many forms and sometimes the reason for the stress dictates the indications of stress that the sufferer will experience. For instance. If the cause of the stress was an attack, then some of the indications of stress may be flashbacks and nightmares.

However, if the cause of your stress is job related, symptoms of stress may be psychosomatic illnesses so you can get a day off or you might suffer a non-existent feeling of rejection by your colleagues.
