Have you ever used a crock pot? Or what we call a slow cooker in the UK? My father gave me a crock pot for Christmas twenty-five years ago and I only had to replace it, because it got stolen. Some thief must have heard the were great and pinched it for his wife.

It was good-looking enough to leave out on the work top and I guess that is how it caught my burglar’s eye. It was stoneware, really nice.

That is one of the points I would like to make in this piece, some of the crock pots from the better manufacturers are attractive enough to take to the table. The other point I would like to make is that crock pots are not only for making soup or stews in.

I have recipes in the house for bread and cheesecake. Really, most people just do not believe me when I tell them what you can actually do with a crock pot, especially the modern programmable ones.

To prove it, I have reproduced one of my cheesecake recipes below. If you can not be bothered to make, just take it from me that it is gorgeous, simple enough to make and practically automatic to make. Those of you do get around to making it will agree with me, I am sure.

APPLE-NUT CHEESECAKE

Crust:

1 cup (scant) graham cracker crumbs 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons sugar 3 tablespoons butter, melted 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts

Filling:

16 ounces cream cheese 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated white sugar 2 large eggs 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 teaspoon vanilla Topping: 1 large apple, thinly sliced (about 1 1/2 cups) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon finely chopped pecans or walnuts

Combine the crust ingredients and pat into a 7-inch spring form pan. Beat the sugars into the cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, whipping cream, cornstarch, and vanilla. Beat for about 3 minutes on the medium speed of a hand-held electric mixer. Pour the mixture into the prepared crust. Combine the apple slices with the sugar, cinnamon and nuts and then spread the topping evenly over the top of the cheesecake. Place the cheesecake on a rack (or “ring” of aluminum foil to keep it off the bottom of the pot) in the Crock Pot. Cover and cook on high for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Let it stand in the covered pot (after turning it off) for about 1 to 2 hours, until cool enough to handle. Cool it thoroughly before removing the pan sides. Chill before serving; store leftovers in the refrigerator for any normal shop-bought cheesecake, but yours will be better..

Wireless speakers are not the pinnacle of technology that they were not so long ago, but they are still fairly new. The good news is though that the price of good quality wireless speakers has come down to an reasonable level for most people. However, the constant march of technology continues and it is almost impossible to be on the forefront of it for more than six months before something new comes out.

So, I have come to a conscious decision not to be on the forefront of technology any more. Twelve months behind is good enough for me these days. It can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars to take that decision. I am sure that you are already aware how much items like computers, especially laptops, and plasma TV screens have come down in recent years.

So, now is the time to get into wireless speakers. They are a good idea in any situation, because you can move speakers around without needing extension leads, but they are particularly practical in a home theater because people will not be able to trip over the wires in the dark.

Wireless speakers have come down in price because there are more manufacturers making them, which is the normal reason why this happens. Many of the newer manufacturers are in the Far East, which is also nothing new, but the quality is just as good. They are just less expensive.

Wireless speakers are one of the first up-grades you should think about if your system is a couple of years old. Wireless speakers permit so much more freedom to move your speakers around to get the best sound out of your home theater set-up.

One tip if you want to try to save a bit on your acquisition of wireless speakers is to buy online. But, do not rush into it. First of all do the round of the shopping malls and find out which wireless speaker systems you like. Take a note of three brands or models. Then go online and check the prices for these models.

You should note down the models, the online prices and the URL of the shop where you saw them online. Then, go back to the shops where you first saw those models and ask if they are willing to equal, or better, the price. If they are willing to price match, all well and good. You have won because, if there is a problem you can return them locally. If they will not, you must judge the value of a local purchase to you.

You can easily end up with a top quality home theater system with wireless speakers by going about purchasing your up-grades in this manner. You really ought to go the way of wireless speakers and if you do not believe me, just walk around the shopping mall one Saturday afternoon, you will soon be persuaded.

Thousands of years ago, ancient Greek astronomers determined that the track of the Earth’s axis is constantly, even if in a very slow way, changing in a regular pattern. The variation is very similar to the way a spinning top slowly leans one way and then another as it slows down. It is a wobble that occurs as its axis alters direction.

This odd movement of the planet is due to a couple of factors, the most important of which is something called ‘precession’. Precession arises from the fact that the Earth is not a perfect sphere. It is in fact about twenty-seven miles longer around the Equator that it is around the Poles. The Earth then is oblate, or fat around the middle like middle-aged spread, but it is due to the rotation not to its age.

If you imagine the Earth with its Poles off centre. Then rotate that image and you will find that any point, except the very centre of the axis, will move in a circle. But very, very slowly. So slowly that it takes 26,000 years to go full circle and get back to where it started from.

This point then, any point you choose, is very gradually shifting its position in relation to the stars because the axis is rotating too. The result of this is that, what we call the North Star (formally known as Polaris, which is in fact one degree off true North) will not be over our North Pole one day. In fact, by about 15,000 AD, Vega will be almost over the North Pole, although it will be about four degrees off true North. But even this will not endure, and by 28,000 AD, Polaris will be back above where it is nowadays.

One of the effects of the precession is that seasons vary. They modify the dates that they take place, so that Summer could come earlier or later. The amazing thing about our calendar is that it is corrected for that (with the leap year). If it were not, the vernal or Spring equinox would shift over 13,000 years from March 21st to September 21st., which is the date of the autumnal equinox, precisely half a year later.

It is for this reason that the precession of the Earth is generally referred to as the “Precession of the Equinoxes”. Although the precession of the equinoxes is very slow, it can be readily observed. The correct year of 325.25 days is the length of time from one vernal equinox to the next vernal equinox, however, it takes 20 minutes and 24 seconds longer for the Sun to appear in precisely the same place with relation to the stars behind it over the same period. It is for this reason that accurate star maps have to be stamped with the exact time and date to which they refer.

Pheasants are located in numerous areas around the world with many unique colors that will identify a species. They need to have decent habitat in order to survive. There are certain places were the birds will flourish, in other areas in which they're not going to do as good. This is often as a result of predators more than a lack of food. The wildcat is the most dangerous predator to the wild pheasant. It can jump off the ground and take one right out the sky very quickly and be consuming lunch in seconds. In places which have raccoons and snakes, the eggs will be in possible danger likewise.

Pheasants are located all over the world and have a variety of colors. There’s everything from the white-eared pheasant to the reddish colored Blood pheasant, and everything else in between. The habitat appears to be the biggest element in the species success. In some locations the bird thrives and others it will not. Larger predators like hungry wild cats love the flavor of pheasant meat in their normal diet.

Pheasant farms offer hunting, but they also protect the species from extinction. The farms will raise the young birds till they are big enough to release into the habitat, insuring a strong population for hunting.

A good bird dog will help you find, scare, and retrieve your bird after a successful hunt. Labrador retrievers are the most sought after dogs for hunting pheasant. Some hunters prefer pointers for flushing out and locating shot birds.

Expect to find birds around water during the hotter season. They enjoy ponds, creeks, streams, faucets, irrigation areas as well as pumps. Just like fishing and other hunts you can expect great hunting early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The morning seems to the best time to hunt as pheasant tend to be feeding in the open fields.

It is always a good practice to wait for the birds to settle back down. When you and the dogs arrive they will retreat and hide and come back out after things calm back down. Always looks for signs of crowing and tracks to make sure you have pheasant in the area. On pheasant farms, this is not a concern as many of the birds have been released within hours of your arrival.

The calendar is such a routine, everyday thing, but how much do you actually know about the operation of it. Why is it like that?

The calendar is such a routine, everyday thing, but how much do you actually know about the operation of it. Why is it like that?

A DAY: The Earth rotates at a reasonably fixed pace about the imaginary line running between the North and South Poles named the Earth’s Axis. The time it takes to spin once is called a ‘rotation’ and this takes just under twenty-four hours. Nevertheless, because the Earth is constantly traveling around the Sun, the exact time from noon one day to noon the next is 3 minutes 56 seconds longer and this makes a day almost exactly twenty-four hours in length.

The actual time from noon to noon differs depending where the Earth is on its celestial course around the Sun, but if you average the days in a year out, it comes to precisely twenty-four hours.

A YEAR: All nine planets in our solar system travel around the Sun in almost perfectly circular routes called orbits. Each trip around the Sun is called a revolution and all the planets revolve around the Sun in the same direction. The direction the Earth takes can be verified by noting its location against the background stars.

Since you cannot see the Sun and the stars at the same time, it is obligatory to note the location of the Sun in the morning and the see which stars appear there in the night. You will see that the Sun appears to pass through the twelve constellations of the zodiac during a year.

Earth’s trip around the Sun, which seems like the Sun traveling through the zodiac takes about 365.25 days. This varies from year to year, so astronomers add or delete a second in some years to keep their time accurate with the Earth’s motion.

THE SEASONS: The seasons indicate the variation in the pattern of daylight over the course of a year. Because the Earth is tilted off centre, different parts of it get different amounts of sunlight on different stages of its path around the Sun, a path that we call a year. So, between about the 21st September and late March, the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, which creates Autumn and Winter, giving less than twelve hours of daylight per day.

From April to the 20th September, the Northern Hemisphere enjoys more than twelve hours of daylight a day, producing Spring and Summer. The exact opposite occurs in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Equinoxes occur at the points in the year when there is exactly twelve hours of sunlight and darkness in the day. So, the vernal or Spring equinox is on or around the 21st March and the autumnal equinox is on or around the 21st September. Summer officially commences on the day with the greatest amount of daylight, the 21st June or summer solstice.

The winter solstice occurs on the shortest day, the 21st December. ‘Solstice’ is a combination of two words meaning ’sun standing still’ and the days are so called because they are the days when the apparent movement of the Sun reaches its extremes and reverses direction again.

Saint Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands although the capital city, Charlotte Amelie, is situated on St Thomas. Saint Croix itself has two towns Frederiksted (pop. 830) and Christiansted (pop. 3,000). The name of the island derives from the original Spanish name given by Christopher Columbus in 1493 – Santa Cruz or ‘Holy Cross’. As Santa Cruz, Saint Croix gets a great deal of mention in swashbuckling stories of pirates and buccaneers sailing on the Spanish Main.

The populace before the Europeans got there was Arawak and Carib and they had probably been there since about 5000 BC. After 1493 the population of the Caribbean got involved in a 100 years war with the Spanish and the type of people living on the island altered forever.

Saint Croix has been owned and therefore predominantly occupied by the Spanish, The British, the French, the Dutch, the Maltese and the Danish all of whom had slaves and plantations

The slaves were freed in 1848, but many chose to stay on Saint Croix. Descendants of slaves still live on the island. The total population of the island is now roughly 60,000.

English is the official language and is the most commonly spoken, although there is also some Spanish, French Creole and Virgin islands Creole, also known as Crucian, which is spoken by most inhabitants in informal situations.

This Hispanic segment of the Crucian populace is mostly of Puerto Rican descent. The US bought Vieques from Puerto Rico during the Second World War and evicted its inhabitants. Many moved to St Croix because of its similarity to Vieques. These people have integrated well, but also kept some of their old ways. They usually speak a mixture of Spanish and Crucian English in a unique form of Spanglish.

Continental Americans make up about 13% of the inhabitants and mostly live on the eastern side of St Croix. Arab Palestinians are also a sizeable minority owning most of the petrol stations and supermarkets on St Croix. Other recent immigrants have moved from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Philippines.

There has been some tension between immigrants and those calling themselves ‘real Crucians’, but it has largely evaporated due to intermarriage. There have been attempts to define a ‘real Crucian’.

The issue seems to have been sorted out when in 2009, the proposed U.S. Virgin Islands Constitution voted by the Fifth Constitutional Convention laid down three definitions of U.S. Virgin Islanders: “Ancestral Native Virgin Islander”, who have ancestral ties (and their descendants); “Native Virgin Islander”, who were born on the island (and their descendants); and “Virgin Islander”, who are any United States citizen who has lived in the region for five years.

If you do not buy your home theater in one box, as many people do, then you will have to choose a screen at some point or another. However, not only that, but you may be faced with deciding between a TV-cum-monitor unit and a drop down canvas screen.

It really all depends on the size of the room you want to use as your home theater. If you are going to convert the box bedroom into a movie theater, then a 28 inch TV screen might be enough for you, but if you are going to use a long room and people might be quite a few yards from the screen, then a projector and drop-down screen would almost certainly be the right answer.

However, for most people, a normal TV screen would be sufficient. There are several types of television sets on the market at the moment, so we will take a look at them in turn later. Firstly, I would like to mention the dimensions. It has been standard practice for hundreds of years to hang a painting five times the diagonal of that painting from the viewer’s eyes. In other words, if a painting or a screen or a window, is two feet diagonally, then the best place to view it from is ten feet away.

This is a broad rule, it is not written in stone. Personal preference and eyesight come into it too. Therefore, if you used a 28 inch television set, the optimum viewing distance would be about 12 feet away. So, 28 inches would be ample for most spare bedrooms, but maybe not for a converted attic or basement. This relationship between screen and room size is the most important to get correct, otherwise the rest is a waste of money.

It all boils down to: do you like to sit in the front of the movie house or at the back? [We are only discussing viewing the film here]. If you like to be dominated by a huge screen, then the proportions I gave you must be decreased, otherwise they should be about accurate. Assess yourself: how far do you like to sit from your TV? Is it more or less than 5:1?

There are basically three types of view screens and they are: plasma, rear projection and front projection screens. The first is the modern flat screen TV, the second the conventional TV and the third a system with a projector.

Plasma Televisions

These televisions give the best quality, especially for watching movies that are formatted for wide screen viewing. They have a much larger viewing area than traditional televisions and they also come in a wide variety of sizes in order to adapt to many types of home theater needs. The biggest problem with these beauties is the price, but that is dropping every month too.

Rear Projection Televisions

This is the standard cathode ray tube TV that we have all been watching since were born. Their major problem is that they are lumpy, but that was not a problem for decades, so if it suits your room, do not let it be a problem to you now,

Front Projectors

This is what you see at the movies or on old Cine 8mm – the drop-down projection screen. But, do not write it off. It still produces high-quality images and for larger rooms, it is really the only screen for your home theater.

Among the leading bird hunting sports is hunting wild pheasant. The scientific name of the common pheasant is Phasianus Colchicus. This bird is highly prized by bird hunters.

Many hunters like to get out on a Saturday afternoon in hunt for wild pheasant. The scientific name of the common pheasant is Phasianus Colchicus. This fowl is highly revered by bird hunters.

Pheasants primarily live in wooded locations. Their diet is made up mostly of earthworms, snails, spiders, millipedes, and grasshoppers. The beautiful birds love to scratch up leaves for these soft invertebrates and they also enjoy various grains and all types of berries. At night, these gorgeous fowl will roost up in the trees and at daybreak they will peck the ground for some tasty treats.

Pheasants is a term frequently used for quail, partridge, or ruffed grouse. In the 1800’s, ring-necked pheasant was introduced into the United States. The male pheasant is called a cock and is known to have vivid brown plumage and most species have a white ring around the neck. It is much more colorful (than the female) with a variety of green and purple markings. Female pheasant plumage has a more subdued brownish look to it. Both the female and male have yellowish stout beaks and rounded short wings. Male pheasants have tails that are over 20 inches long and protective spurs on the back of their legs that takes them from wild animals.

Pheasant populations are sensitive to land development as well as clear cutting and environmental pollution. If we don’t start now in protecting pheasant populations from the harms of modern society, the good old days of pheasant hunting will be a thing of the past. Fortunately, there are pheasant farms with protected areas for the pheasants to grow their populations unhindered by modern society. However, it is hard to find areas that are not touched by air or chemical pollution. In the United States, pheasants populations have declined due to many factors. Farms allow for better managed populations.

The Great Plains has a huge population of pheasants that live in the open grass prairies and around the old farm houses. The birds absolutely love to peck around on the grasses for grains and insects in the fields and roost around old homeplaces and farming implements. In the US there are about 10 million birds compared to about 35 million in the United Kingdom.

Males do a strutting movement in the spring of the year to entice a female into courting. The head on the male will become bright red and engorged with.feathers puffed out as the male begins strutting in a courtship dance. Male birds will fight to the end to win the right to breed with a suitable female.

Male pheasants are known to commonly mate with more than one female and, kind of like Elvis, are often followed that one time by a group of females! This is called polyamorous behavior. The females nest on the ground and will have about 10 eggs per nest. The incubations period last between 23-26 days between April to June.

Before they became UFC stars, Anderson Silva and Mauricio Rua were both star fighters for the famed Chute Boxe Academy, based out of Curitiba, Brazil.

Before they became UFC stars, Anderson Silva and Mauricio Rua were both star fighters for the famed Chute Boxe Academy, based out of Curitiba, Brazil.

The prospect of a match between Silva and Rua at one time seemed nearly unthinkable, but now it seems almost like simply a matter of time.

The History Between Silva and Rua

Although Silva and Rua trained at Chute Boxe together, they actually did so for only a relatively short amount of time.

Silva is more than six years older than Rua,. By the time Rua was emerging as a Chute Boxe star, Silva was already on his way out.

In fact, Anderson Silva credits gym rival Minotauro Nogueira for helping to keep him from retiring after he left Chute Boxe.

In any case, the truth is that while Silva and Rua have a healthy amount of respect for each other, they were not consistent training partners, and aren’t truly friends.

As much as Silva might not enjoy fighting fellow Brazilians as much as fighting people from other countries, Lyoto Machida is about the only fighter Silva says he will not fight.

For Rua’s part, he says the only fighter he won’t fight is his friend, Wanderlei Silva.

The real reason a fight between Rua and Anderson Silva never fought each other has little to do with affiliation, and much more to do with weight class.

Rua has been fighting at the 205 pound limit for years, while Silva used to fight as low as 168 pounds, and only recently has tested the waters at 205 pounds.

Recently, UFC president Dana White has been interviewed about Silva’s future and has said that he thinks a permanent move to 205 pounds may be in Silva’s near future.

Silva has pretty much cleared out all of the marketable matchups at 185 pounds, and ever since his seemingly effortless win over Forrest Griffin, people have gone so far as to say that Silva is truly the uncrowned champion of the 205 pound division.

With Rua now reigning over that division, a clash of titans seems imminent, especially if Rua can get by Rashad Evans later this year.

Silva’s current MMA Shorts sponsors is Jaco but I bet Tapout Shorts would love him to be wearing their product. This also applies to Rua whos current sponsor is “Bad Boy” which represents his fighting style just perfect. With the amount of fans these people pull for a PPV TapouT Shorts would love to sponsor them.

Some Titan Affiliates are offering You a free poker bankroll if You join Titan Poker and use their Titan Poker Bonus Code during the Sign Up procedure. The Affiliates will receive a commission from Titan for Your real money play on the site. No Deposit Poker Bonus Offers work, if the average Player generates more income for the affiliate than he has received upfront as a Titan Poker No Deposit Bonus. Let’s take a look at things You should know about the Titan Poker No Deposit Promotions.

Are You asking Yourself how no deposit poker bankrolls can be legit? Here’s how it all works. After You open Your Titan account it will be funded with a real money poker bankroll. Start playing no deposit poker with free poker cash. Each Time You play Titan is taking a portion of the pot as rake. This Way the poker room is making money. If You signed up via an affiliate link then a part of that money is paid out to the affiliate. And that is why all no deposit poker bankrolls have one limitation. You must produce a minimum amount of rake before You are able to extract any money from Your account. Once You have met the playthrough requirement You can keep Your money and withdraw Your whole balance. Reaching the Raked Hands Limit means that the affiliate will already be in profit. You will be able to withdraw if You make him a profit. This is the only restriction to Your free poker bankroll.

Not every Player is eligible to get a free bankroll at TitanPoker. Titan Poker is not accepting USA Players for example. The Providers of the No Deposit Poker Bankrolls might apply their own restrictions too. You can only receive free poker money if You never had an account on Titan before. You have to be a first time user of TitanPoker. If You already had an account then the Provider of the Free Bankroll will not receive credit for referring You. The Affiliate will then not get paid for Your play and he couldn’t afford to offer free poker cash then.

You must also be aware of the fact that every Titan Poker No Deposit Bonus Code is only available to certain countries. Every Player should always check if Your country is excluded from the offer or not before downloading any poker software. Each Provider has it’s own set of countries that the promotions are open to. US Players are generally not accepted by Titan Poker. Players from most countries can claim free poker money on Titan.

No one under 18 Years can participate. If You are under 18 or 21 Years old You are not allowed to play online poker. Remember that Your details are going to be checked and You might be asked to prove Your identity or age. Making false bonus claims can lead to getting banned from all future offers from that provider, sometimes You might even get blacklisted by the poker networks themselves for bonus abuse. It’s not worth taking that risk for the small chance of getting a bonus You for which You do not meet the requirements|Since You will not succeed in claiming a bonus from which You are excluded for any reason You better just wait instead of risking to get banned.

Furthermore You will also gain access to private free poker tournaments on Titan from most of the sites. These private free poker tournaments can add up to Your poker bankroll if You have a working tournament strategy. A single top finish could easily be worth more than the initial no deposit poker bonus You got. So don’t underestimate the value of freeroll entries when You are comparing the different Titan Poker No Deposit Bonus Codes.
